Our friendship with the supremely talented and massively influential Northern Monk extends back as long as the brewery has existed; whether it was sage advice that we required, support during difficult periods, all the way down to our shared passion for our football teams, we’ve shared a close relationship that has intertwined throughout our history.

With the advent of Hop City finding its way onto our calendar, we couldn’t help but leap on the opportunity to brew up something tremendously hop-forward whilst we were in town to celebrate the best hop merchants in the world.

Featuring a lineup of hops both well utilised and respected, to brand new to us at Polly’s, we’ve loaded this beer with Polly’s favourites Idaho 7 and Strata, with complimentary additions of Alora and Erebus to create a DIPA dripping with sweet melon, peach, apricot and yuzu notes, playing off Erebus’ completely unique blueberry, candied fruits and floral rose flavours.

Can. Hazy orange gold beer, small but tidy pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, good fine minerally carbonation. Light smooth pale malts, a nice light creamy sweetness. Intriguing quartet of hops. Smooth pine. Broad spectrum Idaho 7 hop fruits. The dominant flavours come from the 2 new kids on the block. Bitterish yuzu and candy fruits and mild rose. Trace of blueberry buried in the candy fruits. Finishes light and with a nip of hop spice. Nice one. Very drinkable dipa showcasing 2 new hops well. Strata anonymous though. Much better than any of the Adroit Theory or Other Half DIPAs I had last night.

440ml can. Hazy golden orange, white head. Aroma of ripe orange and grapefruit, marmalade, overripe stone fruits. Taste of sweet malts, overripe stone fruits, peach, orange, grapefruit, marmalade, candied tropical fruits, hint of booze. Medium-full bodied.
Somewhat traditional leaning DIPA rather than a flat out hazy, and I appreciate that. Really nice throwback to DIPAs of old.
