Hotel Parkzicht has been a family business since 1931, right in the heart of the rugged Veenkoloniën. In addition to the hotel, the company has a strong local function for food, drinks and entertainment. Since 2010, Appie Weij, the fourth generation, has been thinking about brewing his own beer at Hotel Parkzicht. The brewing kettles were purchased in October 2017 and put into operation in April 2018.
The brewery consists of two parts, the glass brewing kettles are in the restaurant (brewhouse) and the fermentation and storage tanks are in a separate room next to it (the fermentation and storage room). The kettles are made of glass and red copper and because of the transparency you can follow the entire brewing process. The kettle is heated by steam and is therefore a real steam brewing installation with a capacity of 1000 liters. In the fermentation and storage room the beers are bottled and keg.
The new Veendam beer is sold under the brand name Bogdike, named after the cultural organization of that name.
