Description
Mike Hess Brewing is one of the premier craft breweries of San Diego. We set out with a mission to bring people together over great beer and were early on in the craft beer revolution. We were the region’s 33rd brewery back in 2010 when our first location, then a nano-brewery, in Miramar was opened. Now, in our 10th year, we have 5 locations in California, including the “OG” spot, which has since tripled in size!

Draft @ beertemple. Aroma of subtle hops, herbs, malt and caramel. Grassy taste of malt, herbal rye, pine, caramel and malt. Nice, but a bit too malty for my liking.

Can from The Beerhive. Opens like a tin of dog food. Pale golden body with a medium white head. Low carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of grain and herbs. Flavour of grass and pale malt. Medium body with a light, smooth texture. Soft fizz. Not much going on but it’s very clean and easy drinking.

Draught @ Beer Temple. Lightly unclear light orange color, average sized off-white head. Smell and taste wheat, lightly herbs or spices, definitely some orange and orangepeel and a sweetish honey hint towards the end. A bit thin texture, average body and carbonation.

Sampled from draught @ Beer Temple. Lightly hazy orange color, average sized off-white head. Aroma is malts, sticky resinous hops and some pine. Taste malts, hops, resin, pine bitterness again. Medium body, suitable decent carbonation. Nice, but not top notch.

Can from The Bottle Shop Canterbury and drunk on a train after seeing Andy Zaltzman. My that’s hoppy. Gold colour I mean the malts aren’t quite to my English taste but you can’t say they skimped on the hops. Grapefruit mainly. Boy that’s hoppy. Possibly too extreme. But I did kinda like it. Could I drink pints of this? Not sure. Some bitterness but not overly bitter. Yes it was fun. Fresh as far as my palate says. Good IPA
