Bottle thanks to one of the Mikes at Hess. Pours with a hazed golden hued body with a small white head that lasts. Aromas are fruity and hoppy: tangerine, vanillin, raw oak, belgian yeast esters and phenols, a bit of grapefruit pith. Dry. Flavors are tangerine, stone fruit, light tannic, bitter, low grainy malt, vanillin and oak. Light esters. Lively bubbles, dry with a slight alcoholic kick to the finish.

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is fruity and citric. Tart and lingering fruity. Dry, mild spiced and phenolic. Bitter and dry hoppy. LIght spiced and liqourice and dark malty into the finish.

Draught. Arbitrary score 4/5 for Appearance, as nighttime conditions prevented correct assessment. Minty nose, fresh hops, aroma of liquorice without the sweet connotation. Dark malts and USA hops (surprise, surprise), bitter, dry and tart. Some bitter chocolate. Can’t find it really good - wonder if it is me, or does the beer rubs me the wrong way?

Tap at Downtown JB’s SD. It pours clear amber, with a thick white head. The nose is white grape, green apple, lemon, white grapefruit, pine and grass. The taste is big resinous hop, pine, grass, hay, white grape, soap, lemon, gooseberry and greengage, with a warming, bitter-dry finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. An interesting DIPA.

Tap at Hess. It pours dark copper, with a thin, bubbly beige head. The nose is raw green hop, floral, leaf and manure. The taste is caramel, toast, leather, resin, wood, leaf and manure, with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. I’m not a fan of the style, but a solid effort nonetheless.

Tap at Hess. It pours very dark brown, with a thin off-white head. The nose is spice, caramel and lots of dark fruit - prune, red grape, date and raisin. The taste is caramel, toffee, prune, date, raisin, currant, some spice and port/sherry notes, with a dry, warming finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Good balance and well hidden alcohol. Delicious.

Tap at Hess. It pours very dark brown, with a thick beige head. The nose is coffee, chocolate, playdough, plastic and a touch of smoke. The taste is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, caramel, some brown sugar and toffee, with dry-roasted finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Not overly complex, but very drinkable indeed.
