Description
Mike Hess Brewing is one of the premier craft breweries of San Diego. We set out with a mission to bring people together over great beer and were early on in the craft beer revolution. We were the region’s 33rd brewery back in 2010 when our first location, then a nano-brewery, in Miramar was opened. Now, in our 10th year, we have 5 locations in California, including the “OG” spot, which has since tripled in size!

Draft.m Black beer with a brown head. Chocolate and light roast aroma with malt. Chocolate and light roast flavor with light spice and light earth. Medium-plus bodied. Chocolate and light roast lingers with some earthiness. Rye in backgroumnd - which is good on this beer. The chocolate is screaming to be balanced with some vanilla from a bourbon barrel. Will be great to sip on when it’s colder.

Draft. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Grapefruit aroma. Grapefruit and pine flavor with sweet caramel. Medium-plus bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and light pine lingers with sweet caramel and light earth. Would have called this a double IPA. Has that same San Diego(/Port influenced) IIPA sweetness that I wish would drop out a bit like other IIPAs.

Draft. Amber beer with a cream colored head. Light grapefruit aroma. Grapefruit and pine flavor with backing caramel. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and pine lingers with caramel and earthiness. A lot of different hops that could be cleaned up and streamlined, but very drinkable none the less.

Draft. Slightly hazy straw beer with an off-white head. Light malt and light spice aroma. Malt flavor with light mineral and light fruitiness. Medium bodied. refreshing and easy drinking. Malt lingers with light sweetness and light grass. Nice beer. This beer seems the most dialed in of their recipes, but gets hurt a bit on RB’s hedonistic scale. It’s nice.
