Description
Hopkins Ordinary Ale Works is proud to brew small batch craft beer in the cellar of the Bed and Breakfast. Our beers are made using local barley that is malted by our neighbors at Copper Fox Distillery, and feature local, seasonal ingredients whenever possible, such as hops, honey, fruit, and herbs.

Using our one-barrel brewhouse, we are making a variety of beers over the course of the year, including some local favorites: Little Devil Blonde, Second Breakfast Stout, and Innkeeper’s IPA.

Visit the brewery for a flight, a pint, or bottles or a growler to take with you.

Our outdoor BIERGARTEN is open during brewery hours!

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish just off-white head that stays afloat nicely. Aroma of roasted malt, light coffee, a bit of caramelised sugars and a good deal of hazlenuts and earthiness. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong nutty and earthy malts dominate up front with a lot of caramelised sugars and even some toffee notes with a bit of plums and figs for the sweetness with a nice balance of rich malts and sugars here with a complex note from the fruits and the coffee and even some chocolate notes coming at the very end. Aftertaste shows the earthiness from the malts with a light dose of vanilla and coffee and some softer sugars from fruit and caramel that ends nicely with a good complex sugar richness but more from the nuts and earth than anything else, all attributed to the malts. Overall, a nice and complex beer, especially from a small operation, that hits the mark nicely and very nice to sample while it was still chilly here in the mountains - great as a first beer option here! I sampled this pint from the brewery/bed and breakfast while I was staying there on my wife's 40th birthday on 06-March-2021, sampled for free as a guest at the B&B.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a rich, thick three to four centimetre tall rich light brown head that stays afloat nicely. Aroma of crisp roasted malts, oatmeal, alcohol, molasses and a good deal of raisins along with some nuttiness and a lot of earthiness at the end that attributes to the bitterness in the nose. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong earthy malts dominate the flavour with a lot of richness and some nice sweetness coming from the molasses and vanilla here with a lot of earthy quality and some smooth raisins and figs towards the end with a little bit of nuts to finish it out and make quite complex, especially with a good deal of alcohol and astringency showing at the end, but not overpowering the sugars. Aftertaste shows a good rich maltiness along with some light smoke notes and even a hint of toasted grain, but the earthiness and complex sugar flavours balances out the pungent alcohol quite nicely. Overall, a great beer for the style and hits nicely in the cold weather here in the mountains, but finishes well and is complex, especially considering it's made in the small operation here. A great beer to sample if you came at the right time to grab it!
