At the brewpub. Very dark looking brew. Smells like mild coffee, not in yer face like so many other coffee attempts. Attractive looking and attractive smelling. Virtually flat on the uptake but this does not distract from the experience. For 6+ alky, this beer is quite mild, you’d think it was more like 4%. Goes down oh so easy. Very nice lacing all around the glass. One of the better doen coffee stouts, ranks right up there with northern countries mild coffee beer. Yes, coffee makes its presence but its never up front or in yer face, good job! Glad to have tasted this nifty brew.

My sample came in at 6.5%. At the brewpub. Nice and black with a chocolate moose head that fades rapidly. Nice and mild on the first taste. The smell is quite attractive with its roasted attributes. For a 6+ alky beer, you’d never know it, it hides its alky content very well. Little co2 but there is lust enough to keep it interesting, perhaps more mild stoutlike in nature. Nice roastey flavors all round. Yes a pretty good porter, glad to have had the chance to drink some of this. Good job guys.

My panhandle came in at 6%. On tap at the brewpub. Slightly dark and hazy like lighter colored iced tea. Mild ipa aroma. Nice lacing on this one. Fairly flat. Initially a little fruity then during the session it gets a little more hoppy bitter in personality. However, never approaches IPA in taste. Fairly good laid back attitude for an ale. Yes a little bit hoppy bitter towards the end but remains fairly civilized for a pale ale. Overall, not too bad for a lager lover.

At the brewbub. Cloudy vanilla yellow. Big IPA aroma and the first taste is what else? Terribly on style impy IPA. Mouth coating bitter feel to this one. Yes, after each swig it feels like I was chewing on grapefruit rinds mixed with pine tree sap. All round hop bitter to say the least. Not as viscous as with most impy IPA but just as big of an impact in personality. Terribly on style. Wheeling’s most hoppy beer fer sure. Has co2 but because of this beer’s big personality, you’d never know it was there. Look, if you like IPA, this is a must try, but for me it just plowed over my poor little girlie lager loven taste buds.

Draft at Brew Skies 2014. Hazy golden yellow color. Aroma of fresh hay, light fruit. Taste is fruity, minimal bitterness. Easy drinking.

Believe it or not, there is another beer with a similar name, by Ale Industries in California. Draft at Brew Skies Festival 2014, courtesy of Josh, thank you sir! When the brewer first described this, I expected a dark beer. Instead he poured a hazy pale yellow beer with a small white head. I got mostly a peanut butter aroma. Another brewer got mostly bacon, and another guy at the fest got mostly banana. Shows the complexity of the brew, kudos for that. In the taste, I got peanut butter, Banana bubblegum. This is a good festival beer, a conversation starter.

Sample at Kurtkeller 007: Founders-tastic 01 on 03/06/2014. Dark brown color with a thin beige head that recedes quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing on the glass. Roasted malt and chocolate in the nose. Medium body with flavors of roast malt, stale coffee and mild chocolate. The finish is sweet with a short malt aftertaste. Slightly below average overall.

Pours an increasingly murky orange-amber color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes quickly to a film. Spotty lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt and hops. Medium-bodied with flavors of oddly smoked malt and earthy hops. The finish is mildly bitter with a short hoppy and smokey aftertaste. Below average overall.
