Sample at Über Tavern. Clear copper color with a medium off-white head that recedes gradually. Strings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is citrusy with hops and malt notes. Full-bodied with a moderately bitter hops and grapefruit character, with some grainy malt in the background. The finish briefly hoppy then ends sweet with honey and malt. Decent overall.

On draught at Chuck’s Hop Shop. The beer pours a slightly cloudy amber color with a medium foamy off-white head that recedes slowly. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, malt and citrus. Medium-bodied with flavors of piney hops, malt and citrus. The finish is moderately bitter with a hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

Tap at Backwoods, Carson, 24/05/13. Lightly hazed golden amber with a thin off white head. Nose is dark toffee, malt, cardboard. Taste comprises caramel, touch of biscuit, a little papery. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, light bitterness in the finish. Pretty bland affair with little depth or interest to the flavours. At least they attempted to keep true to style and didn’t over hop or ramp the ABV up too high!

Tap at Backwoods, Carson, 24/05/13. Clear dark amber with a thin beige head. Nose carries hop notes, caramel, sugars, orange, many of the right notes but a little on the thin side for a 10% DIPA. Taste comprises caramel malts, sugars, hops, orange pith, bitter grapefruit. Full bodied, fine carbonation, hop bitterness in the finish. Drinkable DIPA but a little dumbed down, no real depth or punch to this one, alchocol was well hidden if indeed it was 10.1% as per the beer list! As I found with most of the Backwoods beers, it was drinkable but some way short of being top draw, glorified good level home brewing to be blunt!

Tap at Backwoods, Carson, 24/05/13. Very dark mahogony brown approaching light black with a thin tan head that clears to a swirl. Nose is roasted malt, liqourice, sugars, dark toffee - a rather uninspiring and muted nose for a 7%+ beer. Taste comprises light roast, dark sugars, touch of chocolate. Full end of medium bodied with moderate carbonation, light roasty finish. Drinkable but lacks any real depth, one dimensional and sweet with it! Would suggest this is classed as an American Strong at 7.2 % ABV !

Tap at Backwoods, Carson, 24/05/13. Clear copper with reddish hues and a thin off white head. Nose is caramel malt, light hops, bitter orange, sugars. Taste follows, caramel vein running through allied to a little biscuit and bread dough. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, touch of bitterness in the finish. Drinkable but nothing to make me want to revisit.

Cloudy orange with thick white head. Fruity and piney aroma, very full and pleasing. Full bodied sweet citrus flavour, with enough tang to not be cloying. Spruce-resiny finish

Tap at Backwoods, Carson, 24/05/13. This beer was listed on their menus as ’Brewberry Wheat’ - correction sent, also @5.8% ABV on my visit. Clear pale golden with a thin white head. Nose is blueberries, grass, cereals. Taste follows, sugary blueberry notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, crisp finish. Possibly refreshing on a hot day but otherwise sub par, too sweet and not subtle enough on the berry front.
