Description
Everything started in 2011, thanks to the collaboration of the brothers Marcello, Monica and Davide Ceresa. The name Retorto was suggested by the topography of the valley where the brewery is located, and it’s ironically personified in a clumsy king who never disdains a pint of good beer. Determined by the strong aspiration of the brewer Marcello and a shared yearning for the ancient art of making beer, the three brothers aspire to revolutionize the italian beer landscape, testing new flavors and new sensations.

Pours a hazy dark amber color with small head and gentle carbonation. The aroma of malt is mild. Full bodied; good malt and caramel flavor, sweet without excess, and correctly balanced by a nice bitterness and some alcohol warmth; it also has a nice fruity side from the fermentation, and some oranges from the hops.
Very nice one; drink fresh, I don’t think it’s suitable for aging.

Bottle 50 cl. Reddish amber with no head - the beer is completely flat. The nose is first and foremost boozy, but underlying complexities do come forward if you give the beer time. Dark warm sugars and dried fruit. Body is rich and equally complex, a lot of oxidation - may remind more of a Sherry to some if it wasn’t for the tiny amount of late hops. I actually dig this, and in a beer like this I can live with the lack of carbonation. 150816
