Bottle. Poured copper brown with thick long lasting head. Aroma of hops an caramel. Flavour of hops, malt citrus and oat? Long lasting hoppy finish. I tasted the finish half an hour later.

Bottle poured a redish light brown with a light tan head. Aroma is of medium dark malts and plenty of bittering hops. Some alcohol as well. The flavor was as expected per its unoaked brother. I was actually surprised how subtle the "oaking" was. Not overdone, for sure as some can be. Long and strong bitter finish, but plenty of robust malts to make this big all around.

12 oz bottle; Nose of citrus hops and oak; dark rusty color with a thick, long-lasting, glass-lacing beige head; flavor is citrusy hopiness with small oak accents in it’s medium body, that fade into a bitter hop finish.

2006 Bottle: Pours a deep reddish copper with a bountiful head. Aroma is purely hops - citrus and florals. Taste is packed with... gee, let me think - HOPS! However, the dominating hops are backed with fruity wine tones and some sweet malt. Has a silky and rich feel througout the entire glass and will remain one of my favorites from Stone.

Bottle: Dark amber/orange color - almost reddish with a thick tan head and great lacing. Aroma is primarily hops, citrus and some sweet malt backer. The taste is packed with hops, hops, and more hops. Nice citrus and floral hops dominate with some sweet malt and a bit of raison flavor. An excellent beer!!

Smelled hoppy and fruity, but more like an Imperial IPA than a Strong Ale. Poured a copper amber with a frothy, creamy off white head. Malty flavor, floral, hoppy. Finish is far too harsh to make this beer pleasing, too much palatable alcohol. Good, but better beers are smoother.

Smells of hops and alcohol...malts are very apparent...whew!....powerful aroma...color is same as regular bastard dark amber except with burnt orange hues...a very unusual beer...amazed that a 10% brew is this easy to drink...this beer is: "The Essence of Autumn"

Bottle from Belmont Station, Portland. Ruby colour with lasting tan head. Sour hop aroma is lovely. Malts are sour coffee. Sourish in mouth, astringent hop on end. Cats pee aroma. Rich in mouth, but slightly sour as well and then this astringency cuts in. This is more a state of mind than anything else. Take bits that are attractive, sour, astringent and here you have something arrogant. It seems to say "Here I stand with strong statements of taste and knock me down if you dare." Smells of a yeasty English bitter. Yeasty like Harveys Sussex Best Bitter. Some fullness in mouth. Yeah, I liked it.

Bomber. Pours hazy, caramel red. Head is reddish. Tons of malt up front, hops even a little earthiness in this one. Creamy, good body. Stone uses a ton of hops in their beers, and I love it! True masters.
