About
Meadery owners John and Barbara Kennen raise bees adjacent to the wildlife refuge of Sutton Lake. Our honey crop comes primarily from West Virginia hardwoods (basswood, sourwood, poplar, maple, fruit trees.) From this nectar we produce mead or honey wine. Honey with our fruit and berries makes our melomels.

We specialize in organically grown fruits (i.e. rasberries, blueberries, peaches, apples, apricots), which are pollinated by our own bees. We also have a wide variety of honey and honey products.

750 mL bottle from Tamarack, Beckley, WV. Pours a clear vibrant pink color, no head, weak legs. Aroma of tart berries, grapes, mild honey. The taste is intense berries, grapes and a honey finish. Somewhat sharp but not quite medicinal. Medium bodied, low heat. Decent but a bit too fruit forward.

Chilled sample poured into a plastic cup at the University of Charleston’s Wine and All That Jazz. Taste is simple apple, some apple, and a hint of herbal. My favorite of Kenco Farms selections in 2014, remember liking it less in years past.

Chilled sample poured into a plastic cup at University of Charleston’s Wine and All That Jazz Festival. Pours dark red, syrupy texture, and blackberry aroma. Taste is semi-sweet blackberry and some honey. I like the Kenco Farms Melomel Raspberry a little more than this one.

Updated rating, had during the Wine and Jazz Festival in Charleson, WV. Refrigerated 750 mL bottle poured into a white wine glass. Pours clear pink with no head. No lacing, medium body, sticky texture. Taste is quite sweet honey and some blueberry. Sweet, nice balance of honey to blueberry, easy to drink, not much richness, and not quite cloying for me.
