Sample at the taproom. Brown-black pour with a medium tan head that dissipates steadily to a dense film. Small patches of lace. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate and coffee. Medium body with flavors of charred malt, bittersweet chocolate and coffee. The finish is roasty with a malt and coffee aftertaste. Decent overall.

12 ounce bottle into snifter; no bottle dating, probably early/mid 2018. Pours dense pitch black color with a 2-3 finger dense tan head with insane retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick creamy/soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Insane appearance. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toffee, brown sugar, roasted nuts, dark/brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes licorice, vanilla, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/black/roast/bready malts and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toffee, brown sugar, roasted nuts, dark/brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes licorice, vanilla, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Mild pine, herbal, woody, grassy, peppery hop; and roast/charcoal bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, molasses, toffee, brown sugar, roasted nuts, dark/brown bread, toasted biscuit, licorice, dark fruit, light smoke/char, leather, tobacco, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with an amazing roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/roast bitterness. Light-medium carbonation and extremely full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is perfect. Slight slickness, sticky hops, and chalky roast. Mild increasing warmth of 10.4% after the finish. Overall this is an insane Russian imperial stout! All around amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts and light-moderate fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the big ABV, with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Extremely rich/well rounded imperial stout malt complexity; with restrained fruity yeast, and solid earthy hops against sweetness. A highly amazing offering, and world class/spot on style example. A lot of intense complexity, and not overly bitter/charred. Exceeded all expectations, pretty mind blowing stuff.

Rocky dark tan head left a frothy cover on a very dark brown still body. Strong coffee, demerara & dark chocolate aroma. Medium bodied, very sharp & prickly over the tongue with short dry clean back. Espresso, dark chocolate, lactose, berry & malt tastes with slightly citrus finish.

Bottle shared at Lucky Bamboo share. Pours a deep brown to black with a small tan head that dissipates. Cacao nib, espresso and vanilla aromas on the nose. Sweet but not cloying at all. The adjuncts work together well here. Smooth and decadent with a full-bodied flavor. Vanilla, cacao and coffee on the finish. Light roasty bitterness and slight smoke as it warms. Delicious! Super underrated brewery. --- Beer merged from original tick of Coffee Vanilla Dire Wolf on 12 Jan 2019 at 23:41 - Score: 8

On draught at thebarupstairs. The beer is a slightly hazy pinkish-red club with a medium thin pinkish-white head that evaporates quickly to a wispy film. Short strings of lace. Aroma of cherry, wheat and malt. Medium body with a tart cherry character and notes of slightly funky yeast and doughy malt. The finish is tart with a lingering cherry aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

At a tasting, small stable bubbly creamy mocha head, opaque black color, aromatic roasted coffee aroma, , earthy notes, greenish hints and a whiff of dark malt, flavor of coffee and chocolate pralines with some cakiness in the back, mellow bitterness, hint of sweetness, medium bodied. Nice and enjoyable.

Keg at BD Union Square. It pours hazy bright red with a medium pinkish - white head. The aroma is fresh, bright, funky, tart cherry, cherryade, sour candy, cherry drops, sherbet and puckering action. The taste is crisp, dry, tart, puckering, lightly lactic, salty, zingy, plenty of tart cherry, cranberry, redcurrant, read apple, light acidity and sour candy with a dry, tart finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Dangerously drinkable for the abv. Nice juan.
