Golden colour with a white head. Aroma and flavour of banana, yeast, spice and wheat.

Golden colour, aroma of warm caramel, some fruity hops, and bit alcohol, taste of more caramel, the alcohol shines through the malt sweetness.

Pale golden colour with small white head. Malty and grassy hoppy aroma. Some sweetness in malty flavour. Some bitterness.

Brown 0.5 litre bottle, best before 2nd Sept 2010, drank 23rd Feb 2010. Poured (three times) into a 0.2 litre stemmed Veltins Pilsner tulip. Looks like a pilsner, light golden in colour, pure white head. Clear, clean and bright, loads of bubbles rising through the beer on each pour. Good head retension and lacing for a lager/pilsner. No great aromas, some hay/straw and a slight grainy hint as the drink warmed. Sharp and refreshing and that crisp pilsner feel only the better ones give off. There is a hop presence, but not much, with even less of a malt taste. Having said that, it is a pleasant beer and a lot better than most beers of this style. Pilsners don’t have a big body feel or richness, they are light coloured and light bodied, this one carried off the style well, while still letting you know you’d had a drink.

Brown 0.5 litre bottle, best before 8th July 2010, drank 23rd Frb 2010. The second beer from this brewery to be reviewed this evening (of three). Poured into a vase shaped pint glass. Very pale yellow, misty rather than murky or cloudy, thin looking actually. On top sat an uneven crust of foam, white in colour. Next time I have one I’ll pour it into a stone mug (stein) I think! Yeast esters came up from the beer, mixed with hints of hops and the promise of mixed spices (cloves, corriander and nutmeg). The taste was refreshing and wheatish in flavour, the aforementioned spices did appear, but only lightly and in the background. Enjoyed the beer, wish I’d bought more while staying close to the brewery last December.

Brown 0.5 litre bottle, best before 5th July 2010, drank 26th Feb 2010. Poured into a Franziskaner Weissbier glass. Deep, deep ruby red, dark brown colour, loads of large pieces of sediment came out with the beer, no way of seeing or stopping it. The floating masses did spoil the initial look. They soon however fell to the bottom of the glass. A well formed foaming off-white head sat on top of the beer, this head soon began to shrink and ended up a thin wisp of a covering. Malted wheat smell, a roasted, toasted malted wheat that is. Below that were esters of bananas and caramel, with a hint of grapefruit and sour lemons. The taste was semi-sour with a malty twist from start to finish. Tart, sharp and slightly vinegarous, not your average dunkelwiess feel at all. As the beer warmed the bananas and caramel from the smell came into play, as did a vanilla sweetness. The sweetness didn’t last long though, because as the mouth dried, a sourness and bitterness took over again with only the maltiness saving it from being a very low score on the taste element. Nothing wrong with the body, just the overall taste let it down to be honest. I might have bought myself a duff bottle, but I can only review what I’ve had.

Bottle. Dark golden, white head. Grainy, light honeyish malt notes, booze, restrained grassy hop counterpoint. Sweet, slightly sticky base. Honeyish finish, grassy aftertaste. Hides its strength well - a bit pointless though if you can get a fullbodied Helles which tastes pretty much the same.

Bottle. Chestnut, low head. Light bready aroma. Sweet roast base, light braed , grassy finish. Medium body, mellow mouthfeel. Not super exiting.
