Description
Johann Gottfried Glauner decided in 1877 to put the local, closed-down brewery, back on its feet. He sent his son, Karl Albert, to Weihenstephan to learn the skills of beer brewing. Karl returned in 1880 as a master of his trade and with all the energy of his young years, determined to brew "the best beer far and wide". It was indeed a beer destined to outlive its numerous local competitors. To this day the Alpirsbacher beers have lost nothing of their popularity... and the Glauner family continues to brew their excellent beer in Alpirsbach in the fourth generation.

Re-rate from bottle. Clean and nice grassy hop aroma. Dark golden, low carbonation, white head. Chewy grainy base, good grassy hop notes. Chewy, sparkly, well-made. Original rating from 0.33l Bottle. 5 3 5 3 9. Hayish and sweet malt aroma. Bronze dark golden, low head and carbonation. Balanced to boredom. Light malt with a slight bitter finish. Slight buttery aftertaste with a bitterhop zing.

Re-Rate from bottle: Straw and fresh grass. Pale golden, lacing white head. Straw and cookie malt bas, quite full and chewy. Good grassy hop balance which carries it to the finish. My old bottle must really have been a lemon, this is a solid Helles. Old rating from Bottle, 4 3 4 1 7. A tad straw and herbs in the nose. Pale golden, low on bubbles, ok frothy white head. Rather weakly pronounced strawlike malt and herbal bitterhop flavors. Flat and thin on the palate.

Bottle Hayish malty and grassy nose. Deep golden, low carbonation, fluffy head. Grainy and hayish malt base, light hop bitterness on top. Sweet malt aftertaste. Solid body, a bit sticky mouthfeel. Not terribly interresting.
