Description
Artzner craft beer has a very long history. It dates back over two centuries. In 1882 to be exact, Pierre Hoeffel founded brewery Perle in Schiltigheim. In 1919: Charles Kleinknecht, brewing engineer, took over the brewery and in 1930, a new brewery was built. Just before the Second World War, production reached 300,000 hectoliters. In 1971, the brewery was closed and the buildings were demolished in the 1980s.

In 2009, Christian Artzner, great-great-grandson of the founder, paid his greatest tribute to this beer by bringing it back to life. In 2015, the Perle brewery officially opened in Strasbourg, at the Plaine des Bouchers, with a brand new production facility and beers "made in Alsace"

Bottle 33 cl. Pours amber with a slight haze and a white head. Sweet malty nose with a caramel touch to it. Rich malty body, a little syrupy with very little hops to balance the sweetness. Rather metallic notes. Pretty sure this is bottom fermented. 130914

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a hazy yellow with a white head. Slightly yeasty aroma but a rather distinct dry white wine note. Medium body, a malty sweetness but also a slight tartness from the wine. Again a little metallic and yeasty. Decent though. 130914

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a hazy, greyish pale yellow with a lacing, white head. Nose is dominated by yeast - and nothing else. Extremely thin and watery body with a massive carbonation. Flavourwise a little sweet malt and then just yeast and....yeast. A little metallic - no, very metallic actually. Poor. 130914

Bottle. Dark golden with good sized white head. Yeast, caramel, roasted grains, dry bitter herbal and grassy notes with light resin and some lime. Quite fruity on the nose but not so much in the taste. Light sweet with medium bitter finish. Medium bodied with slight thin feel. Ok but nothing too exciting.
