Small yellow rim; virtually black beer. Bourbon, vanilla and moccha; sweet chocolate as alcoholic pralines (Belgian chocolates). Petit Beurre cookies; demure, bit of moccha and diluted chocolatedrink. Warming up, the coffee and chocolate flavours increase in strength. Lighter than expected, still very slick. Some alcoholwarming. Rather disappointing flavour, especially after the promising nose. Many thanks to Dirk!

Refrigerated bottle through trade with cavie poured into a shaker glass. Pours a very dark brown with medium brown highlights and little beige head. A little lacing, medium body, and low carbonation. Taste is light caramelly malt, raisen, some biscuit, some nuttyness, some hops, and a hint of chocolate. Typical scotch ale taste, alcohol is well covered, and this is good for the style.

Bomber from ericandersnavy. Thanks man! Pours very dark with a creamy darkish tan head. Roasted aroma - backed by chocolate. Near full bodied. Flavor is complex. First impression is either rum or chocolate. Definitely some dark malt. Maybe some floral or grassy hop? It’s sort of chewy. Think there’s treacle and dark fruit. And coffee comes out. Maybe cooking cherry. It’s definitely not all that sweet. And a persistent tang comes in the aroma with every sip. Pretty good drinkin!

Received this in trade from TexIndy, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a nice dark brown with ruby highlights when held to light. Nice size off white head dissipates quickly. Aroma of Smoky nutty roasty malts. Not much hop to be found in the nose. Tastes like it smells, roasted malt bitterness in the finish. Bubbly creamy mouthfeel. Medium to thin in the body. I thought the carbonation seemed a bit to high and lessened my enjoyment of this brew. Overall a decent brew, I could see myself enjoying a few of these.

Received this in trade from Texindy, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a cloudy golden yellow with a smallish white head that dissipated quickly. Smells of spicy yeast and a bit of banana. Bready sweet malt in the background. Taste is as would be expected from a hefe. The spicy yeast esters dominate, throw in some faint lemon and banana. A bit watery body, sweet sticky mouthfeel. Not a bad brew, not great but I could down several of these on a hot summers day.

Bomber from ericandersnavy - who probably disposes of more Rahr beer than anyone on the planet. Pours pretty dark brown with a small tan head. Bourbon wafts from the glass. Even stronger with vanilla notes when the nose goes into the tulip. Med body. Flavor is malt, bourbon, vanilla and oak. And a good bit of darker fruit. Each sip is strong bourbon and oak. That mellows out to dark fruit, finishing fairly bitter. Then it just starts all over again. Very good stuff. Not very complex, perhaps, but it doesn’t need to be.

On tap(thanks Kevin!) at Freetail Brewpub SA(9Jan11)pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is light barrel, oak, vanilla, roast. Flavor is licorice, and light barrel elements of vanilla and wet wood. Enough roast to make the body interesting and the barrel is finessed enough to not be overbearing.
