Best I can recall, this 12 oz can came from a beer-friendly liquor store in Colorado Springs back in the middle of the summer. So that leads me to using my New Belgium globe glass this evening. A frothy pour for sure, lots of parchment colored foam on top of a semi-transparent, dark gold body. The smell indicates a throwback IPA, resin, grain, a hard candy sweetness and straw. The taste follows along with that, very hoppy but not really a bomb, caramel, malt, corn syrup, a touch of citrus and cedar. Perhaps sweet and bitter in equal amounts. I am reminded of 120 Minute, a beer I like, with this one.

Beautiful pour, just like the one pictured; big and black with a rolling thick head. Decent beery peanut nose. First taste is better than expected. Milder dark beer flavors, like schwartz or dark lager with a solid backup of peanuts. Mind you, the peanut is there but it is not over the top - just quite well balanced. When compared to other pastry stouts, this is very civilized; it's never cloying and retains the good manners of a dark beer. So many pastry stouts are gag-me in your face with their over-the-top pastry cloying volatile rudeness. This on the other hand is never boozy and is nothing of the sort. Finally, this has a good level of CO2 which makes it somewhat interesting, thru the session, without the mouth coating syrupy attitude of the other pastries. Up to this point I have had only contempt for the pastry stout style, but this is changing my opinion. Good stuff there LC. Enjoyable. Thanks! Probably could drink another or two.

Poured from the tap. Clear-ish gold with small white head. Wheat and apricot, competently done, but not really interesting. Okay.
