Description
The story of Bear Republic, like most other craft brewers, begins with homebrewing. It was the spark for our passion to create quality, hand-crafted beers. We are a family-owned brewery, located in the heart of Sonoma County, California. The company was established by the Norgrove family in 1995, with Richard G. Norgrove as brewmaster.

After 11 years of rapid growth, we opened our Factory 5 brewery in Cloverdale, California, where we brew and package all our beer that goes to market. We hand select our ingredients for each batch, the grains and hops we use are chosen for their unique characteristics and the recipes and formulations are patiently developed over time. Many recipes start as a home-brew and then develop into the commercial beer available in many retail outlets today. We pride ourselves in using our established methods while always looking to improve efficiencies and techniques that allow us to provide quality beer to share with the world.

Beginning 2023 thw brewery was acquired by Drake’s Brewing.

Bottle: Dark brown with a big tan head. Nose is toasted/burtn malt, coffee, and a little bittersweet cocoa. Tastes better than the aroma, malty, roasted tones, coffee, and dark fruit. The alcohol can be detected, and the tail has some lingering sour coffee grounds. Thanks Indiana_Red for sharing.

Aroma of pine, perhaps a bit of floral. Quite red color with a beige head. Starts with malty sweetness, full mouthfeel, followed by some hop which seems to be citrus. Some gritty brown malt in the finish, backed by some bitter. Fairly smooth, almost creamy at points. Seems a bigger ale than the 6.8% would indicate.

Aromas of dark roasted malt and coffee. Dark brown color with ruby hilites. Tan head that stays and laces a bit. Starts with floral hop characteristic, almost overcome by strong roasted malt. It’s really rather dry, and the mouthfeel is firm. There is a slight hint of sour at the finish, and the mouth puckers a little. The roasted malt character remains, and there is enough hop bitter to nearly balance the matter. Hop at the start, a bit of sweet, than the dry finish. The alcohol is noticable by the brain, but not by the nose or tongue. Quite something.

From 75 cL bottle. Pours filtered orange with creamy white head. Strong aroma hops with a base of malts. Taste is strongly hoppy and rounded off with malts. Good balance. Ends very bitter long into the finish.

Draft. Ruby/mahogony beer with an off-white head. Sweet caramel malt aroma. Caramel malt flavor with some earthiness. Lingering caramel and earth. Fuller bodied. Pretty good scotch ale that’s clean and straight forward - lots of carmelized malt.

Excellent piny hop aroma. Seems like flowers as well. Beautiful amber color with that hughe white bottle conditioned head. Starts with nice bitterness, followed by some floral and citrus aroma. I think I can detect some malt, but I could be wrong. The bitterness goes on and on.
