Description
For more than 9,000 years, the fermentation of honey has helped define culture and shape history. Early Slavic trading, Norse Mythology, Vedic Hymns of India, Old English Epics, 19th century Russian Literature, all of these acts or works, not to mention the contemplations of many a great mind of ancient Greece, have taken part in documenting and contributing to the continuing history of what we commonly refer to as Honey Wine or Mead making.

Arktos Meadery is now one more step in this evolutionary process. Nature has so graciously provided us with all the ingredients necessary for the production of this Nectar of the Gods. Now it is our responsibility to take these fruits, spices, and yeasts and combine them with those two wonderfully simple ingredients of honey and water for the purpose of continuing the hallowed tradition of making mead.

It is our hope and intention to provide each and every one of our mead drinkers with the finest, simplest and most natural mead possible. Oh, that sweet, sweet nectar…

On tap at Arktos, pours a murky brown with a tiny beige head. Aroma is loaded with espresso beans and subdued wildflower honey. Flavour beautifully blends the espresso beans and honey in amazingly cohesive fashion. Sweet and coffee-intense. Delicious.

6.5
Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6

On tap at Arktos, pours a deep dark mahogany with a tiny purple head. Aroma is loaded with intense raspberries, with buried honey sweetness - the sweetness seems to come from the fruit - there's some pronounced pithiness too. Flavour is surprisingly dry for such a high ABV mead, with lots of dry, pithy raspberries, lots of booze, and fermented out honey. I'd prefer a little more residual sugar here to bring out the raspberries. Hot and boozy, but fun.

On tap at Arktos, pours a clear blonde, no head. Aroma is very smoky, with gentle pineapple and campfire smoke. Flavour is quite dry and smoky, with fermented out honey, lots of campfire smoke, and a dry finish. The honey doesn't leave much residual sweetness. My least favourite from these guys.
