Fairly clear deep copper and bronze coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre to two centimetre tall, just off-white head that fades fast, but leaves a small layer on top, even after a few minutes. Aroma of metal, nuts, earth, caramelised sugars, light grain, some flowers and a dash of herbal notes, but relatively crisp throughout. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong crisp malty and herbal flavours show with a lot of grain, nuts, earth and some subdued hoppiness with a very low alpha acid punch, but showing some citrus and piney bite in addition to the floral and grassiness that is stronger. Aftertaste shows some mellow sugars from caramelised sugar and toffee with a lightly toasted grain note, but more of the malts than hops and only a touch of earthy, rustic flavours. Overall, a pretty nice Vienna with some dry, herbal notes along with a light citrusey component and a balanced, strong bite more from the malts than hops, but nice and robust throughout. I sampled this 50 cL can, from Day #4 of the Costco 2020 Advent Calendar, purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia sampled at my house here in Washington on 04-December-2020.

Day 4 from the Woodland CostCo Advent box. Pours ruddy amber with a large creamy/foamy beige head. Toffee aroma with a grassy note. Med body. Flavor is rather heavy toffee with grass/spice. Not dry, but not sticky. Somewhat bitter. Suddenly I realize it's fairly smoky. Was hidden by the malt for awhile. Actually very tasty.

Can, 0.50l. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and dried fruit. Pours clear amber color with thin creamy tan-like head and sparkling appearance. Taste starts medium sweet caramelly and chalky, following is roasted, earthy, dried fruity and herbal, mouthfeel is smooth and rather dry, while finish is average bitter. Medium body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. Goodstein...

Some light roast, some caramel and a hint of leather. Pours clear orange with ok head. Not bad, tastes a little better than I expected, but nothing top notch here either. A little bit of lingering smoke here as well. Beer #4 on advent calendar.

500 ml can purchased as part of the 2020 Costco Advent Calendar at the Costco in Overland Park, Kansas. Exp 2021/05 printed on the bottom of the can. The pour is a cloudy brown copper, ruby with a smallish tan head. The aroma is gentle campfire smoke and soft toasted bread. The taste is mostly the char smoke, some bacon, a soft acidity and finishes with the toasted bread malt. The palate is medium bodied, active carbonation and a lingering char campfire smoke finish. Hadn’t had a Rauch in awhile, I enjoyed this.

Malty body is nice. Low bitterness. But just a touch of astringency and not a top notch fermentation. More of a dark amber ale, not much spice. Simmel dresden

500 ml can purchased as part of the 2020 Costco Advent Calendar at the Costco in Overland Park, Kansas. Exp 2022/05 printed on the bottom of the can. The pour is slight hazed copper golden with a thin off white head. The aroma is roasted malt, bit of caramel though that is subdued. The taste is roast malt, some coffee, earthy peat, smoke char and toast. Bit of floral present to dry out the finish. The palate is medium bodied, with soft carbonation and a roasty dry mineral toasty finish. Tasty beer, this didn’t look like a Schwarz, but had a nice roasty smoky flavor.
