Description
Although Bergquell beer has been brewed since 1846, the company has been a purely regional brewery for a long time. For the 150th anniversary - 1996 - the new building in the industrial area Löbau-West was inaugurated. In 1999, the annual output was 7,000 hectoliters of beer. But within a few years, the company developed into one of the most modern breweries in Europe with a current annual production of around 200,000 hectoliters and a nation-wide reputation in Germany.

Medium beige head. Dark red translucent body with carbonation. Strange, rubbery, earhty aroma, slightly dry. Sweet, watery taste of wild berries, metal, and earth with a dry slightly empty aftertaste. Quite good, but nothing too special. Nothing like normal porter, or even schwarzbier.

Empfehlenswertes Testobjekt! Test vom 1.9.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 8,11,11,9,8,10 - 9,85

Bottle. Sweet, dark sugar, peppery aroma. Seemingly clear very dark brown colour. Semi-stable light brown head. Distinct carboard flavour! Not past BB date. Rather peppery flavour too, some sweetness. The alcohol is very present in the aftertaste. Oily mouthfeel. Off?

Bottle (late thanks to Yogi_Beera!): Deep amber coloured, small foamy layer; very weak aroma: traces of roast malt and hops mixed with sweet fruit and a distinctive metallic tinge; sweet flavour; very faint sweet-fruity finish with nearly no traces of anything else. A beery alco-pop, no Porter...............

Red-brown tinted, very dark beer; paler beige head. Perfumed Belgian chocolates nose, with alcohol, rainwater, grassy. Sweet, faint chocolate powder, blackberry sauce flavours. No alcohol taste, except blended into the sweetness. Past this sweetness, however, the rest is pretty neutral, not much individual characteristics. Warming up, more bready notes in the finish. Bit burning MF, well bodied. Nothing very distinctive. OK beer, just a bit disappointing and too sweet IMO for a porter of whatever kind.

Rerate from tap at Moosburger Bierfest.
Chestnut clear brown, low head.
Light meadow nose.
Light minerally bready roast, light dark sugar/molassis, a bit sirup on the palate.
A bit more streamlined now, still sweet though.

Dark chestnut, creamy brown head. Sugary, light fruity aroma, faintherbal hops. Quite sweet, not much substance, a hint roast. Very boring.

(Bottle 50 cl) Slightly hazy pilsener golden with a small, white head. Malty aroma. Medium body with a crisp dryness and a marked, bitter finish. But I think all the malt evaporated in the aroma - nothing much left to add flavour. 200106

Bottled. Dark amber colour, beigish bubbly head. Skunky vegetably nose. Sugary sweet flavour with vegetably notes. Sweet all the way through, in a negative way.
