A yellow beer with a huge white head. The aroma has light notes of both butter and hops, while the flavor is sweet malty, leading to a dry bitter end. The buttery aroma is a drawback.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a lightly hazy pilsener golden with floating impurities, and a creamy, off-white head. Malty, lightly alcoholic nose. Full body, malty sweetish with a distinct alcoholic finish. 050506

(swing top bottle at the Klosterschänke) Clear pale golden colour with a short foamy white head. Slightly sweet malty aroma with hay and grassy hops. Quite dry malty and bready initial taste, light to medium body, dry malty and grassy hoppy finish. Decent and not very inspiring brew. But the monastery of Eberbach itself is a very special and beautiful place where one can smell almost 1000 years of history; it is also a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. The wines available there are surely much better than the two beers, which are brewed by the Allgäuer Brauhaus. I skipped the Dunkel and headed for the Eltviller Brauhaus a couple of kilometres away (02.04.06).

Pours a nice dark brown colour with a big head that disappears quickly though. It has a little sweet aroma and a little roasted , even some fruity aroma. The flavor is also a little sweet, but not to sweet for me. It also has some roasted flavor with a hint of fruit and caramel. It leaves you with a nice warm feeling.

I bought this bottle in Kempten. It has a nice amber colour. The head disappear quickly though, leaving just a very thin ring. It has a balanced smell between malt and hops and a little metallic smell. The taste is a bit malty with a nice hoppy aftertaste. There is a hint of alcohol in the aftertaste though.
