Bügelverschlußflasche:Golden, smaller lacy white layer; light papery nose, perfumed, unmalted barley in the nose; very light bitter flavour, light bodied as well; short dry grainy-bitter finish. This beer was in the 50’s a tasteless, notorious miner’s beer. The new edition is an almost perfect copy..........

Bottle, thanks a lot pivnizub. Fairly spicy aroma, plenty of heather. Golden off-white foam. Herbal spicyness carries over into the flavor, dark bread notes, hay, minerals, grassy hops. Stays on the sweet side. chewy body. Relatively quick finish. Solid.

(swing top bottle) Clear, pale golden colour with a big and slightly off-white foamy head. Light-sweet and subtle grainy, slightly doughy malty nose with a tinge of grassy and slightly metallic hops. Light-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied, crispy mf. Soft grainy malty and slightly chalky taste with lighter herbal hoppy spots; lightly bitter and minimal sweet finish with a faint herbal and grassy hops character. So la la (26.07.09).

(33cl bottle) Pale golden colour with diminishing white foam. Sweet malty nose; light to medium bodied; Sweetmalty, slightly papery taste with a shy bitter hoppy finish. This one is a recreation of a former widespread beer, once brewed in Bochum and Recklinghausen until 1980. I had the opportunity to ask some older people about their memory of Schlegel and all of them told me it was awful. Brewed with cheap raw material, it was an industrial beer for industrial people during the period of heavy industries in the Ruhr area; it was rather to quench the thirst of masses of coal miners and steel workers cheap and quick than to be enjoyed. Now we have this “private” labelled recreation, which is very expensive for a 330 ml longneck bottle, available only in in-crowd pubs, representing right the opposite of the old clientele.
