Description
In 1564 for the first time a brewery is mentioned in Svijany. In the following years the brewery was owned by different families. In 1912 it was bought by brewer Antonín Kratochvíle. The Kratochvíle family operated the brewery till 1939. After the war the brewery was confiscated and later nationalized. in 1990 the state enterprise Vratislavice nad Nisou was created, which included Svijany Brewery. In 1998 the company Pivovar Svijany was created, which became the new owner of the brewery. In 2005, it was transformed into a joint-stock company. Gradually Svijany became the strongest regional brand with national importance. The popularity of the brewery is increasing and it is gradually being developed into one of the largest independent breweries in the Czech Republic.
Svijany Brewery is wholly Czech owned and remains one of the last in ‚domestic‘ hands.

Draught at Svijansky Rytir in Prague. Sweet, creamy, chocolate and caramel aroma. Looks like a root beer float. Creamy flavor, chocolate and caramel, slightly burnt and earthy, with some minerals. Slightly watery at the end. Ok, rather average dunkel--missing something. Soft, silky body, very delicate. A nice drinker.

Draught at Svijansky Rytir in Prague. Clear, deep gold, with a tall, fine, pillowy head. Aroma of grassy hops and pine. Clean, clear, bitter flavors of pine, grass. Great hops: herbal, touching the medicinal, with grapefruit and a touch of mint. Very crisp and hoppy, with a really long burn. Fun. A bit over the top on hops, but great.

Draught at Svijansky Rytir in Prague. Cloudy gold, glowing, with the fine, pillowy head. Creamy, malty aroma with butter, soft malts, citrus, grass, and honey. Soft, smooth palate with rich malt. Creamzy, with honey and cake, rather sweet, with almost enough hops. Estery (peach) and fruity. Good stuff--probably better if not consumed on a hot afternoon.

Draught at Zizkovsky Pub, Prague. Rather dark gold with a fine head. Grassy, herbal nose, a bit medicinal, like Chinese meds. Flavor also grass, herbs, banana, medium bitterness. Interesting and estery, though filtered. Light and smooth. An interesting, tasty, herbal concoction. Good.
