On tap at Jake Melnick’s. Color is thick pale straw, very hazy. Aroma is cool - a very unsweet berry or essence of berries. Its a familiar aspect but with absolutely no fruit/berry sweetness. The beer uses blueberry skins, so it makes sense (I also wonder where one gets blueberry skins without the pulp). The rest of the aroma is full of spiky tartness - a very uncitric lemon tartness. Flavor is similar with berry essence and the tartness is not lacto but just a very spiked, lively feel. The carbonation is similar a bit stronger to provide a lively, light, and wild experience as the unsweet berry character adds a nice touch. Really good stuff, I wish this came in the 6 packs.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is freshly ground, medium roast coffee, roasted malts, and a hint of chocolate. Taste is much the same. Finish, as the last rater pointed out, is a little bit watery and underwhelming. Light aftertaste. Not bad.

Draft. A pitch black beer with a rim of brown head. The aroma has notes of coffee, roasted malt, and bread. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, butterscotch, and bread, leading to a dry roasted finish. The body is light.

Imperial pint ($6) at Owen & Engine. Thick dull golden appearance, cannot see through it. Aroma is nicely smoked (medium-strong). Low esters, fortunately low hops. Thicker mouthfeel makes this a light yet hefty brew. Flavor is more smoke and low ester wheat. 20oz is the way to drink this beer.

6oz draft at Jerry’s on Division. Dark brown color. Aroma and flavor have a deep earthy, nutty, and toasted character. Its like drinking brown malt syrup with carbonation. A bit sweet but not sugary. Pretty easy to put down and cool.

Pint at the Map Room. Generally, this looks like a good beer in the process. Seems like a few tweaks will get this to a much better place. Color is pale with a thick haze. Aroma is lemon with light coriander. Pretty refreshing on the nose but then a little off flavor (egg - sulfur) peaks through. Flavor is a bit too sweet for the structure of the beer, a little husky as well. Becomes a bit of a sweet-tart flavor. Needs to be dried out a bit and to lose that light sulfur character in the nose. Will try again when a new batch is brewed. 6/3/7/3/14
Finally re-rated from a 12oz bottle. Poured into a Oerbier Reserva glass with a small head that fades quickly. Color is golden. Aroma is very much gose with a present salt character. A light sweet ester character, then milky lacto and a wheaty must. Flavor has some coriander shining through, lightly lemony, again lacto and slight graininess, and finishes with the slightest bit of acidic tartness. That really cleans the beer up and is my favorite part of the beer. Average carbonation and a much lighter finish and the aftertaste is sharper and lighter than the rest of the beer would indicate. Would like it to be less grainy and a little more acidic but real good now.

On tap at Bangers & Lace. Pours a hazy dark brown with a coffee brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has popcorn and roasted malts with an underlying coffee note. Flavor has sweet dark grains with a hint of coffee and slight buttery notes.
