I wanted to thanks Tooch for sending me this. Grassy yellow, slightly hazy beer with some persistent thin head. The nose is really nice. Salty, tart and chewy earth grass. This is definitely refreshing. The salt is long lasting, the tart and lemon pair well with a chewy rye and wheat grass. Minor bitterness. Great mineral water mouth feel.

The Sampler, Brooklyn 12oz ($2.50): Pours light orange with a white head. Aroma is wheaty, lactic, a bit candyish. Taste is pretty sour. It is a little bit more sweet than I would have liked, but nothing at all excessive in thie category. I didn’t really get any salt in the taste, and I was looking for it. It is a bit spicy as well I suppose. Pretty good. I just like these kinds of beers in general though.

The Sampler, Brooklyn bottle ($2.50): Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is honey, pretzel, oatmeal, roasty malts. Nice combination in the nose. Complex enough. Taste is sweet, but very far from cloying. I would agree with their characterization that this is quite dry. Medium-bodied. Full flavored. Very nicely done.

Om draught at Prairie Moon in Evanston, IL. Hazy lemonade color with a medium thin white head that evaporates steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Fruity aroma with hops and malt notes. Light to medium body with flavors of lemons, yeast and mild floral hops. The finish is fruity with a lingering citrus aftertaste. Decent overall.

Milk chocolate-colored body is mostly clear, with mahogany tinges. Beige head is small but mostly well-retained.
Extremely dry smokiness in the nose shows dark chocolate, touches of caramel and light hop spiciness. Yeast is clean, while the honey does not impart any strange phenols or fusels. Medium to medium-low strength of aroma.
Root beer and pruney vinousness are immediately dulled by bready malts and reserved roastiness. Lightly chewy honey notes on the finish and a fair bit of fruitiness (prunes, plums). Moderate to low carbonation, medium bodied and lightly acidic. Pretty by the book black ale with no flaws. What 1554 brussels black ale should aspire to. Pretty respectable that this is one of the brewery’s mainstays. A completely unexciting (no offense) but very well-made ale. Definitely sessionable, since there is a good amount of restraint on the dark malts. Not sure what the idea with the honey was, but it works just fine. Glad I tried it, will definitely try more from here.

Draft @ Mikkeller & Friends, Copenhagen. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate aroma. Sweetish roasted malty chocolate and caramel flavor. Has a roasted malty chocolate finish.

12oz bottle shared by DrSilverworm. Pale yellow tan body. Foamy, glass rimming head. Sweet, but mellow. Almost corny. Very well done. Easy and sessionable.

On tap @ Beer Temple. Black color. Dense beige head. Aroma’s: roasted malt, fruit, drop/licorice. Roast, milk-chocolate and some red fruit retronasal. Flavor is moderate sweet, roasted. Thin bodied, could have used a bit more. Finishes roasted, dry, moderate bitter. Quite tasty.
