Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a hazy vibrant peach-orange color with a huge fluffy yellow-white head that left good lacing. The aroma was dryish, musty, chalky and perfumey. The flavor was bitter, dry and musty with perfumey hops and a bit of chalk. No coffee that i could detect. Long finish of must and perfume. Medium body. Meh.

This one worked for me - which is a real surprise given my reaction to sootiness usually +++ Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a red-brown color with a small foamy beige head that left good lacing. The aroma was smoky, sooty, malty and had an earthy and leathery presence. The flavor was smoky, sooty, malty and toasty with notes of heather, honey, wood and a slight herbal note. Medium length finish and the smoke does not linger at all. Medium body. Interesting.
