Remarkably pale yellow, even for a macrobrew. Aroma of fusels and light acetaldehyde, plus some rotting vegetables. Ethereal body. Flavour, such as it is being completely overrun by a gross imbalance of water, leans towards wonderbread malts, fusel alcohol. That’s pretty much it. Finish has a fair bit of acidity. It’s not all that well carbonated, quite frankly, so I don’t see this as being carbonic acid. Could be ascorbic acid, a common macrobrew additive. At any rate, it’s just a hint in an otherwise tap watery finish.

If you have it on cask, it's quite nice, but in the bottle it's not much more than English ale for people who don't actually like the taste of real English ale.

When I was 19 or 20, and still mainly drinking MGD, I really liked this beer. It was my first dark beer, heh. Its not great in retrospect, but I'll give it marks for spurring me forward to dark and rich beers.

Last night I sampled a big bottle of Bass Pale Ale - first time I'd had the stuff in over 5 years, maybe close to 7-8!! I recall when I first started drinking it I thought it was a classic, but noticed alot of variability in bottle vs. draft. After awhile it started to go way down hill in my mind. Last nights sampling was actually a pleasant surprise. While Bass Ale is not a potent monster of a beer, it indeed has a fair and drinkable character. The malt palate is sweetish, lightly fruity, and soft. Slightly woody and medicinal hops are pronounced, with a balanced finish. Decent copper color, large creamy head.

I haven't had it in years, and I don't plan to try it again, so I'll give the best review I can here. Like the prev reviewer, I used to get it cheap in college. I remember it as one of the better and more drinkable cheap beers.
