Drank under the name Zhigulevskoe Russkoe Svetloe Pivo without any reference to the actual brewery, bottled for a German importer Pale gold with cold haze; well carbonated; irregular, snowwhite head. Milky, faint grassy, and slightly, well, a bit rotten, really. It’s not completely forbidding, but all the same. There’s something (shell)fishy, salty in the nose too - getting worse warming up. Grainy taste, and a bit bitterish-vegetable. Much more classic, even dry taste than the smell would suggest. Sweetness is way more restrained. I’d hesitate to call it hoppy, but it shows some effort. Light body, quite carbonated. Aftertaste slightly metallic. Well, seen where it is supposed to hail from... there’s worse.

(Can 50 cl) Clear, pale golden with a rather thick and almost chemically white head. Weak hoppy aroma. Very light watery body with some rather brutal bittering hops in the finish. To call this a "Helles" is an insult to any German brewer. 221005

A light yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet metallic, and the flavor is malty, metallic, combined with notes of brewmash on a slighthly sour background.

(Bottle 200 cl) Another huge loadfull of beer in this incredibly uncharming 2-liter plastic bottle. Very dark - and much darker than a typical pilsener. Malty and rather full-bodied with a sharp bitter finish. Some caramel-notes in there too. Oddly enough, this reminds me of a British "Bitter". 060105
