Description
Crux is a crossroads, an intersection, the heart of something. In brewing it's that pivotal point where fermentation happens and anticipation mounts.

We’re Crux Fermentation Project— housed in a former AAMCO Transmission Plant and inspired by our location right in the heart of Bend, Oregon. Our brewery is a one-of-a-kind, built for non-traditional brewing methods like decoction mashing, open fermentation and barrel aging, and for leveraging the limitless possibilities that wild yeast strains and experimental hops present.

Sampled at the Crooked Stave in The Source pours a clear gold with zero head. Looks like cider. Nose is interesting, it has some green apple notes, some pear, dandelion, lemon, under ripe passion fruit. Flavor is the same, a distracting level of green apple, white grape, lemon. Thin finish. Very underwhelming.

Amber beer with a cream head. Grapefruit and tropical fruit aroma. Grapefruit and light pine flavor. Medium bodied. Grapefruit and light pine lingers with just a touch of missing backbone.

Bottle. Pours clear pale orange, medium creamy off-white head, dissipates slowly with nice lacing on the glass. Pleasant dank, tropical citrus aroma, buttery mango. Flavor is light sweet, light bitter, nice hop notes. Yes, its a little watery, but that is to be expected for a session IPA. This is really quite nice; better than the ratings IMO.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Stas & Vova. 2014 bottle. Black with some brown foam. Great aroma of bourbon, vanilla, lots of coconut, chocolate and slight booziness. Sweet flavor, a bit boozy, with bourbon, chocolate, lots of coconut, and a bit of vanilla. Quite full-bodied. Really good.

On tap @ Crooked Stave. Hazy orange appearance with a tan head. Aroma has some leather, light acetic acid, red wine, hint of cheese, and some cherries. The flavor is a bit rough. Moderately tart. Wood and dark fruit. Kind of strong. Finishes a little rough. Not one of my favorites.

Draft pour at the Chucks hop shop sour event. Pours a clear golden color with no head. Very cider like pour In appearance, and even in flavor as well. Sour apple and grape like aroma and flavor with a dry spice and white grape finish. A little on the white winish side, which is a little risky for my liking. Strange beer for sure, but not bad. Glad I tried it.

Bottle from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours translucent gold with a creamy/foamy white head. Aroma is rather tropical fruit with hints of slightly roasty malt and something suggesting creme brulee. Near full bodied. Flavor is suggestive of mango and pineapple, and citrus, with a lot of hop florality and some decent caramel support. Rather laid back in intensity of flavors, but not so with respect to bitterness. A nice finish with floral hop bitter that tingles!

Bottle. Pours clear golden orange, large off-white head, dissipates slowly, nice lacing remains. Aroma is garlic and onions, passionfruit, armpits. Flavor is pretty light sweet, medium bitter, green onion, vegetal, grainy malt, some dankness and pot. Medium light body, lingering bitterness. Well crafted, but too much green onion for one beer.
