Description
The brewing tradition in Helsinki is hundreds of years old. The latest chapter of this story began in 1995 on the island of Suomenlinna right outside of the city. It is here that a one man brewery was founded in the former jetty barracks. The brewery has grown to be home for a small group of dedicated professionals, all passionate about beer culture in Finland. Now Suomenlinna Brewery is one of the largest local breweries in town.

The rich history at this UNESCO world heritage site has been the inspiration for many new beers at Suomenlinna Brewery. Each beer and cider we brew has its own story to tell. When professional attitude and modern technology are combined, the end results are bold, honest, high quality drinks. Our special releases are a sign of our inspiration to create and to try new things.

When you drink a Suomenlinna beer or cider we hope you taste our commitment to quality and creativity. Come visit our brewery on the island of Suomenlinna, the pearl of the Helsinki archipelago. We hope you enjoy every sip. Kippis!

Draught @ Oluthuone Kaisla. Rated on 1.7.2012 Aroma is hoppy with exotic fruits (mango, peach) but also a bit watery. Also hints of caramel malt. Flavour is slightly sweet and a bit malty with exotic fruits. Starts a bit watery and finishes sweet with berries and hints of vegetables. Foamy and creamy palate. Also some hay‐like element I’ve usually noticed in Golden Ales. Decent, could be more hoppy and rich. 7-3-7-3-14 = 3.4 Cask @ Salhojankadun Pub Aroma has toffee and some bready malt. Flavour has strong toffee and fruity aromas with some resiny malt. Finishes with some strawberries and lingering grapefruity hoppiness - with a feeling typical to English hops. Some mildly sticky malt in palate. Good, although the hop profile isn't exactly my thing. 7-3-7-3-14 = 3.4

Clear deep amber color, good off-white head. First impression of aroma: burnt sugar then nutty, flowery English-type hoppyness. Medium-bodied. A bit harsh, sticky and alcoholic. Quite sweet with hints of green apple. Nutty hoppyness. Bitter aftertaste. Quite a mess, although not a disaster.

(Draught at Milenka, 20120518) The beer poured deep amber and a bit hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, grass and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, fruitiness, herbalness, sweetness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was herbal, malty and bitter. An English style IPA with mild fruitiness and strongish bitterness. A bit unbalanced.

Dark opaque black color, steady creamy brown head, lace. Aroma of wet ash tray, even some farmhouse. Light bodied. A bit sour, ashy and burnt flavor. Light milky note in the finish. Too burnt-ashy for my liking. English-style stout.

Aroma is rather strong on butter. Also some grain and hints of grassy hops. Flavour has grainy malt, hints of hay and grassy hops. More like bohemian pilsener, not a basic pils.
