Nestled in the heart of the Jura, the Rouget de Lisle Brewery has been producing beers of character since 1994 with the purest respect for traditions. From childhood, Bruno Mangin, the founder, had a passion for beer. In 1990 Bruno and his wife Roseline opened a unique restaurant concept around beer and offered a menu of 340 beers from 40 countries. They prepare dishes cooked with beer. Their passion for beer being the strongest, they start to "cook their own beers" in their restaurant. Finally in 1994, they decide to produce a range of beers developed on the basis of their own recipes. In 2002, they set up the brewery in Bletterans.
In all, the brewery offers 13 different beers in bottles, part of which is aged in barrels, plus seasonal beers. The brewery produces 6,000 to 12,000 liters of beer per day. Fermentation is a minimum of one week then cellaring for 3 weeks. Then it is filtered on earth. These are unique and rare processes in the production of beer, which explains their quality.
Blind tasting at Papsoes place, another great session, thanks Henrik! Beer #26: Pours slight hazy orange with fully diminished white head. Buttery and spiced aroma. Light berry fruity note. Flavour seemed like blueberry - but I can now see it holds blackcurrant - interesting. Medium sweet. Ends with a light berry fruity note.
Blind tasting at Papsoes place, another great session, thanks Henrik! Beer #1: Pours almost clear and golden yellow with a lacing white head. Cardboard and light cornish note. Medium dry flavour with a light bitterness. Mild cardboard note. Dry finish.
Bottle. Dark brown beer with a fairly strong head. The aroma is lightly roasted and malty, and the flavour is smooth, slightly smokey, malty, vinous and aniseedy. Overall a reasonable beer.
75 cL bottle. Pours clear brown with a lacing light brown head. Strong malty aroma with a herbal note. Somewhat dead mouthfeel with very little carbonation. Flavour is spiced, seems somewht complex but also too much. Has an underlying maltbase which is rather dry into finish.
(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of Ungstrup. Clear, dark amber golden with an off-white head leaving some lacework. Rather fruity aroma. Medium body with a very soft mouthfeel. Notes of caramel and some roasted malt. Very subdued bitterness. Nice but unspectacular. 150807
Bottled. An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of over ripe fruits, and a light dusty hoppy note. The flavor is sweet with notes of over ripe fruit as well as a hint of alcohol, leading to a dry bitter finish. The body is thin inspite of the 6.4% ABV.
From 75 cL bottle. Pours amber clear with a diminished off-white head. Roasted malt aroma with dried fruit note and a whiff/edge of liqourice. Dry malty and slight roasted flavour with a minor sweetness. Roasted finish, rather dry. Nice.
75 cL bottle. Pours slight reddish with a light white head. Aroma is slight wineous and has a malty and slight roated note. Dried finish. Slight sweet mellow flavour and roasted. Nice.
Bottled. An amber beer with a tan head. The aroma is sweet malty with ntoes of caramle and a light touch of alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel as well as light notes of spices and dust.
Corked bottle Dark amber color. Caramel aroma with some roasted malt. Medium-weak body; the flavor is based on poor caramel, with a too high alcohol perception; at the end there is just a bit of sugars with the caramel. Totally uninteresting.
