Description
In 1857 the Zwickau brewery association (Brauverein) was founded, the brewery opened two years later. In 1889 the Zwickau brewery association was converted into a stock corporation (AG). In 1946 it became a a state-owned company (VEB). In 1990 the Mauritius Brewery was founded and in the same year it became a subsidiary of the Dinkelacker brewery group. In 2004 Dinkelacker became part of InBev. In 2005 the Mauritius brewery was purchased by its management, and thus releasing it from the Inbev brewery group, to become a Privatbrauerei. Finally in 2018 the Mauritius brewery was sold to the current owner Jörg Dierig, as managing partner, and Dinkelacker-Schwaben Bräu GmbH.

Down-to-earthness, loyalty to the region, a lot of love for beer and the art of brewing - that's what the Mauritius private brewery Zwickau stands for. We work closely with the people of our region to preserve traditions, but at the same time to actively work on the future of our homeland. Our slogan sums it up:
"Zwickauer Mauritius. A sip of home." (''home'' is of course Heimat in German).

(bottle) Clear, palest golden colour with a blond and fluffy white foam. Slightly sweet and doughy malty aroma with herbal and shy citric hops. Slightly bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slightly doughy and strawy malt character with lighter grassy and subtle fruity hoppy accents; quite dry and slightly papery malty finish with a discreet presence of citric and herbal aroma hops. Not perfect but way better than expected. 03.VIII.10

Bottled (BZ, BB 02/2011)
Dark brown color, decent beige head. Odd aroma of saccarine and paper. Medium to full bodied. Strange industrial flavor. Lacks typical maltyness of German bock. Has caramel, a bit of chocolate, plums and odd herbal vibe, perhaps Jägermeister? Not very alcoholic although it is over 7%.

Bottled. A dark golden beer with a white head. The aroma has notes of minerals, malt, straw, and citrus. The flavor is sweet with notes of citrus, straw, malt, and minerals, leading to a dry hay-like finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.
