Description
In 1857 the Zwickau brewery association (Brauverein) was founded, the brewery opened two years later. In 1889 the Zwickau brewery association was converted into a stock corporation (AG). In 1946 it became a a state-owned company (VEB). In 1990 the Mauritius Brewery was founded and in the same year it became a subsidiary of the Dinkelacker brewery group. In 2004 Dinkelacker became part of InBev. In 2005 the Mauritius brewery was purchased by its management, and thus releasing it from the Inbev brewery group, to become a Privatbrauerei. Finally in 2018 the Mauritius brewery was sold to the current owner Jörg Dierig, as managing partner, and Dinkelacker-Schwaben Bräu GmbH.

Down-to-earthness, loyalty to the region, a lot of love for beer and the art of brewing - that's what the Mauritius private brewery Zwickau stands for. We work closely with the people of our region to preserve traditions, but at the same time to actively work on the future of our homeland. Our slogan sums it up:
"Zwickauer Mauritius. A sip of home." (''home'' is of course Heimat in German).

The bottle looks really good, much like the one of the bock. Very dark in the glass, a little bit red also. Flavor disappointing. Modest malty from the first to the last gulp, somehow boring. I exspected more.

The bottle looks really good and the beer in the glass also. Deeply black. Very malty aroma. Tastes very strong, not too alcoholic. A little bit like coffee. Very good beer.

Süßlich-hopfiger Geruch. Hopfig-malziger Antrunk, das Bier bleibt insgesamt mild. Dabei stellt sich eine angenehme Herbe ein, die von einer aufkommende Süße unterstützt wird. Test vom 26.3.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,8,9,8,9,9 - 8,70

Frischer, scharf hopfiger Geruch. Lieblos gebrautes Bier. Test vom 19.3.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,8,7,10,13,8 - 8,70
