Can from Against The Grain. Golden body with a light haze and a thin white head. Low carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of minerals and citrus. Flavour of bitter hops and a lemony edge. Thin to medium body with a slick mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Clean but I found it a little muted.

Can from Against The Grain, 2025 edition. Hazy ruby/brown body with a thin beige head. Low carbonation. Patchy lacing. Aroma of harsh booze, lemon, nutmeg, orange peel and dried cranberry. Flavour of bourbon and lemon with a boozy, harsh finish. Medium body with a slick mouthfeel. Soft fizz. I wanted to love this but I really didn’t. Elusive are great but this is my easily my least favourite of their beers. The flavours are kinda all over the place - the lemon sharpness doesn’t gel at all with the spices or the notes from the barrel. Everything clashes in this beer and the result is boozy and heavy.

Can from House Of Trembling Madness. Hazy golden body with a thick white head. No visible carbonation. Thick lacing. Aroma of orange and dried mango. Flavour of mandarin, lime and orange barley. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. This is a very good DIPA from a German(!) brewery.

Can from House Of Trembling Madness. Hazy golden body with a few tiny flecks beneath thin white head. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of papery malt and lemon. Flavour of bitter orange rind and papery malt. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Soft fizz. This is papery and pithy - something has gone a bit wrong here. I was hoping for much better.

Bottle from House Of Trembling Madness. Dark brown body with a tan head. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of cocoa, spearmint and lime peel. Flavour of chocolate limes and dark roasted malt. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. I love a dark beer from The Kernel and this is a particularly good one. It wasn’t until I read the previous reviews that I realised this is available in Waitrose. Mixed feelings on that - good that Waitrose are showcasing one of the UK’s/world’s best breweries to a wider market, strange to see one of their bottles with a barcode on it. All the same, this is a lovely beer.

Cans from House Of Trembling Madness. Black body with a thick tan head. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of blueberry, bovril, chocolate cake and espresso. Flavour of leather, hazelnut, cigar and roasted malt. Full body with a chewy mouthfeel. Tiniest prickle of carbonation. A rich, concentrated imperial stout. Utterly superb. One of the best imperial stouts I’ve tasted.
