Classic older building from when the Victorians were building the town up, located on Royal Parade in the western leafy part of the centre. The pavement is big enough to have a few seats outside of its central entrance. This leads into a two room venue, with the room to the right given over to a party when I visited, but the main service area on the left side has plenty of seating in a light, airy, high-ceiling and comfortable modern-traditional setting. The bar is in the back part of this, with a good row of their own cask, which included a guest, and a couple of rows of keg ales. Some of these are regulars, some are their latest specials, but a paddle of four should help anyone unfamiliar get through a few. Large glass windows provide plenty of opportunity to people-watch whilst supping.

A brand new Taylor beer is a rare thing, so is visiting one of their pubs, so this is a double-whammy for me. The new blonde is clear light golden in colour, hoppy and very sessionable, and perfect for this sunny day out in North Yorkshire. It's traditional in design, no more than that, but I'd expect nothing more from one of the regions last bastions of historic beer making.

Forced into having a bottle here as a medical emergency meant the line cleaning was not finished yet. Golden-blonde out of its glass container and it's a light carbonated lemony-citrus lager in both its aroma and taste.

Just a taster here, but a considerable glass for such. Hazy pale golden in colour, aroma is pine and tropical, taste is similar, pine is most dominant though.

Ironically in a pub with no outdoor space for this summer effort. This seasonal ale is easy, light lemon citrus ale, session, very summer as the name suggests given its ease in the palate and hot weather compatible ingredients.

It had not long turned the afternoon when I ordered this yellow-gold coloured post-breakfast ale. A fair body helps give its sweetish grapefruit citrus flavours an enhanced depth.

They're brewing what we're all thinking! Pale golden, minimally hazed football summer session brew. It's nice and crisp and is a tropical fruit very reorderable effort.

Sign of the times beer - £9 a pint for a just over 5% craft in 2026. Will seem the norm soon!. Hazy pale golden in colour, fuller-bodied tropical fruit is also the norm here in both aroma and taste.

Doing some important charity work here drinking this straw coloured glowing one with contributions to mental health charities from my ordering of it. It's quite a hoppy golden styled ale, always easy, could be session.
