Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours a yellow straw with minimal scummy off-white head. The aroma is basically malts and citrus. In the mouth it is sweet with s tangy feel to it. Malts to the fore again in the flavour alongside tropic fruits, lychee and hints of berry fruits. Floral hops come through strongly later plus some mango leading to a slightly bitter finish. This isn’t bad at all.

Cask at Shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a sizable foamy cream head and good lacing. There’s malts and chocolate in the aroma. In the mouth it is basically sweet, but with a little added bitterness. Main flavours are a deep rich maltiness and some dark fruits and lactose. Plenty of other tastes come through eventually to some degree – coffee, gingerbread, spice and plums. Finish is somewhat sweet and slightly fruity. This is rather nice !

Cask at Butlers Bell, Stafford. Pours pale straw with minimal almost white head and good lacing. The aroma is mainly citrus with hints of tangerine. In the mouth it is very briefly slightly sweet before a wave of bitterness sweeps through. Flavour is mainly citrus and mixed hops plus hints of corn and (later) biscuits, lemon and mango. Finish is quite dry. This is reasonable but there’s a bit too much citrus for my liking.

Can from local European shop. Drank at home – in celebration of 107 years of Latvian independence ! Pours a slightly hazy dark chocolate with a small frothy tan head and some lacing. There’s a sense of boiled cabbage in the aroma – but in a good way ! In the mouth it is quite sweet but has an overpowering flavour of caramel. Slightly watery texture with flavour too of malts and chocolate. Some bitterness (and plenty of caramel) in the finish. This is quite decent – but also a bit of a mess.
