These guys are known more for their monthly subscription but they do also function as a standard webshop with 150-200 beers available. My review is for a single month's subscription and the process around it.

Selection: Pretty varied but definitely caters more towards newcomers to craft beer, though I can see tickers getting a decent amount of value from it. I have two issues with their selection: 1) They have numerous "breweries" that are actually just their own brand; 2) a lot of foreign offerings from faraway countries are actually brewed in Belgium, and either carry the name of a real foreign brewery or are perhaps their own brand made to sound foreign. While there's nothing inherently bad about this, I feel it's a little disingenuous of them especially as they often lean on the worldwide aspect in their marketing.

Service: This is where Beer52 loses most marks. If you Google "Beer52" the top autosuggested term is "cancel" due to their notoriously difficult/convoluted cancelling process, leaving you stuck with a subscription you don't want. I actually took advantage of a free beer box offer (with the promise I could cancel before the actual subscription took effect) with the sole intent of cancelling it to test the process out. I'd read that you're forced to speak to them on the phone but this isn't true (as of April 2019), I was able to cancel via email without issue. They do, however, request feedback and reasoning for your cancellation, which I duly gave them. Despite my firm words they still plied me with offers to tempt me back, as well as offering to "pause" my subscription, but I declined both. I received confirmation just 10 minutes later that they were cancelling my subscription - so all in all, fairly painless. But I will say their aggressive customer retention tactics are not befitting of a British company. And in this day and age, a simple Cancel button on the website with optional feedback form should really be standard practice rather than forcing email/phone calls.

Value: The subscription stuff is crazy cheap, but "you get what you pay for". The shop prices are more "normal" (i.e. a bit more expensive). Also worth noting that most cans are 330ml rather than 440ml. Beers seem to be made as cheaply as possible which makes sense given the price point. So whether this is "good" is questionable. My box was fine but none of the beers stood out, even the ones from breweries I already liked seemed to be lacking.

Usability: Well it's very easy to subscribe and buy beers but not so easy to cancel, as described above.

Packaging: Standard branded box with dividers, no issues with it. Worth noting they use Yodel as their courier, so your mileage absolutely will vary.

Overall: I guess they're fine with the important caveats of my issues outlined above regarding fake breweries and contract brewed stuff. I wouldn't recommend it as a bottleshop, but could suggest Beer52 as a possible starting point for the newbie craft beer drinker, though don't expect any world class offerings.
