Tap. Oxbow, Woodhouse. Hazy pale gold. Solid swede. Loads of twang here. The NZ hops shine. Impressive pale with high smashdowntheneckholeability.

Tap. Oxbow Woodhouse. Clear gold. Good white head. Super clean pils with a whiff of grassy slightly pissy hop. Drinks lean and dry. Crisp as. Quality.

Tap. Oxbow, Woodhouse. Hazed up. Soppy swede. Piny and peachy. Good bitterness. Fresh and super clean. I’d expect a mountain IPA to be a bit clear, maybe I’m wrong. Anyway, this half was smashed in seconds. Nice pow wow.

Can. Re-brew obviously. Mitchell’s Wines. Nearly black. Slim sticky messy tan head. Looks the part. Nose has maple syrup. Semi dark chocolate. Cinnamon sticks. Some vine fruit. Taste is fairly sweet, although less so than expected. Has a dryness and a vinous bitterness. Drinks easy at the 10.6. Not especially sticky given the ingredients. Light sweet light dry finish. Pretty good overall with a surprisingly restrained sweetness.

Brava Porter from Brasserie des Anges (Chamboulive (Corrèze), France 🇫🇷)

Bottle picked up at the brewery by my mate Nik. Cheers pal. So this is called Brava Porter but it’s not too porter like really. Moderate haze on a mucky dark amber. Decent swede is soppy and lasting. Nose has a whiff of smoke (this brewer uses wood fire as a heat source when brewing). Light roast malt. Hint of ash. Some bitter chocolate. Some fruit. Taste is light sweet with moderate dark fruit bitterness. Drinks significantly under the 9%. Light bitter finish with the soft smoky thing lingering throughout.

Bottle. Barrel and Anvil (formerly Beer Central), Sheffield. Mostly clear deep cola colour. Nice swede is dense and soppy beige. Nose has old wood. Quite vinous in a tart grape kind of manner. Bit of red wine. Wisp of dark raspberry truffle. Hint of gravy. Taste is bittersweet throughout. Nicely juicy and lightly puckering. Drinks easy for a style that’s not my idea of a chugging beer. Juicy semi tart vinous finish. Good. 330ml was ample, mind you.

Cask Finish Series: Armagnac x Laballe from Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen (Lot, Belgium 🇧🇪)

Bottle picked up the Droom. Missus did some eyelash fluttering to get one each of the threesome available at the time. One had apparently “sold out”. Anyway. Slightly gloopy pour sits hazed deep orange gold. Slim ring of white. Looks a tad lifeless overall, much the same as the other two. But then the nose is nicely woody with sweet vanilla and sweet grape and raisin. 3F funk writ large. Taste is a little sweet and citrusy first off, which was unexpected. Gets nicely tart. Barely any acidity. No way this feels the 9.2%. Turns juicy and woody on the finish. Drinkability is well high.
