Oct. 2020: 500 ml bottle, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Beautiful clear reddish brown colour, moderate head, slightly off-white. Aroma of ripe dark berries, malts and caramel, some earthy notes too. The flavour is first fruity with dark berries again, followed by very distinct earthy hops to a bitter finish.

Bottle from Lidl. It pours clear dark amber - dark copper decent fluffy white head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, trea me molasses, dried fruits, raisin, sultana, currants , plum, prune, figgy pudding, black bun and toasty grains. The taste is firmly dry, bitter, earthy roast, umami, liquorice allsorts, treacle, molasses, touch of tannin, toasted fruit cake, burnt toast, slightly charred, peppery spice, dried & dark fruits, plum, damson and drying wood with a toasty finale. Average body and mellow carbonation. Pretty flavourful for the style. Decent.

Bottle from Waitrose. Pours a slightly hazy chestnut brown colour with a medium sized creamy off white head. Aroma is very malty and sweet with toffee, caramel and doughy white bread. Taste is again very similar to the aroma with more toffee and caramel, more doughy bread, some added fudge and biscuits and a slight earthy hop bitterness that lingers on the finish. Well balanced. Medium to full body, low carbonation and smooth slightly oily mouthfeel. A good example of a traditional English Bitter. Very decent beer.

Half at Purecraft. Clear amber pour with a thick, creamy off-white head. Malty aroma, bread, fruity. Taste is caramel, brown bread finishing with a tiny spark of bitterness. So smooth, cask is the way to go.
