Russian Imperial Oatmeal Stout. If thrown in the old jailhouse, this is the beer we cook. Jailhouse Brew is complex and opaque like the story that got us locked up. It’s coffee, smoke and body salts behind iron bars, and it’s strong enough to get us out again.

Bottle shared by Joes @ weekly tasting. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized beige to light brown head. Aroma and flavor both have malts, a touch of dark fruits, caramel, nuts, toasted malts, rye, lightly a hint of coffee. Medium body and carbonation. Not bad at all.

(Bottle, 0.33 l, thanks Marduk, 20150721) The beer poured clear and nearly black. Its head was medium sized, lightly brown and it lasted long. Aroma had coffee, liquorice and burnt malts. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, ash, coffee, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt and bitter. The aroma of the beer was nice but the taste was too dominated by the burnt flavours.

Thanks to TimE for sharing the bottle at the tasting! Poured into a taster showing a finger of latte foam and pitch black. The nose shows moderately intense roasted ground coffee. The palate is medium bodied with moderately intense coffee and notes of coffee tartness. Pretty much a standard stout.

Pours dark black, bit of beige head. Aroma has a bit of roast, some sourish notes (from oatmeal), bitter chocolate - loads of it. Taste has some chocolate, cocoa, sweetish and a bit sour as well. Something in there which feels bit artificial. Quite solid imperial stout with unusual oatmeal twist.

Medium dark brown color. Slightly sweet nose right lots of dark chocolate and oatmeal. Just a bit too light body, but very drinkable. Decent stuff but not outstanding.

0,33L bottle (from SIP, Tallinn). Pours dark brown-black with light brown head. The head stays forever. Aroma is sweet, roast, dark chocolate, vanilla, malt. Flavor is sweet, dark and milk chocolate, coffee, malt, fruits, some alcohol. Finish is dark and milk chocolate with some alcohol. Body feels surprisingly light. Overall: well-made brew, but not in the world class yet. tap at pudel. Almost 2 year old sample. Hasn’t really improved that much. Sweeter than i remember, and also covers alcohol bit better. Would get about the same score.

Draught @ TCBW 2015

Pours pitch black with a smooth head. Aroma of roasty malts, coffee, chocolate, licorice, cocoa beans, hints of vanilla. Taste is smooth, sweetish and roasty with loads of coffee, licorice, cocoa and ash. Finish is roasty, malty and sweetish with loads of coffee, licorice and ash. Okay, a bit unbalanced.

Draught @ Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend 2015
Aroma is mild with cocoa and semi-dark chocolate. Also some coffee. Flavour has salty licorice, cocoa, some coffee and hints of truffles. Not thin but perhaps lacks complexity. Also too salty for me.

On tap at Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend. Very dark brown with a nice, beige head. Surprisingly fruity aroma; plums, raisins, some moderate roasty notes with chocolate and hints of coffee and caramel. Sweet, fruity and malty with a mild bitterness. Quite well balanced and very easy to drink.
