Haters will say it’s extra. Our second beer this week is Hearts Asunder.
Hearts Asunder is a new — and our inaugural — Extra Pale Ale. XPA is an admittedly nebulous style, but these are the basics: low ABV, light in color and body, pungently hoppy, and, ultimately, quite refreshing. Or so say the Aussies and Kiwis, and since Australia and New Zealand are where XPA has become a phenomenon, we’ll happily follow their lead.
Our XPA clocks in at an adorable 4.8%. It’s constructed from Weyermann pilsner malt and Simpsons Golden Promise pale malt. And its assertive hop character comes from a mix of choice NZ and PNW varietals. Freestyle Riwaka in the kettle. Mosaic and more Freestyle Riwaka at whirlpool. Freestyle Peacharine — supported by Nectaron and more Mosaic — after primary fermentation. It smells even better than you’re imagining: big notes of fresh peach, fruit punch, tangerine zest, white grape, and a toke or two of weed.
The time has come to get faded in the evening time. Try not to float away.

Big nectarine and unripe peach. Some pine, grapefruit. Great hops aroma here. Hazy golden pour with pretty good head and lacing. Bitter end. Great body, tastes less hazy than it looks. Tap at brewery.
