Very good, dense brownish-cream head over clear, foxy granat-brown beer. Sweetish, caramel, but also leafy, melanoidins, bread(crust), raisins. Yeasty, bready, dark malts, light roast, touch mineral, dark candi sugar, grape juice. Slight roasted bitterness, all the same, in fact very good balance. Full bodied despite high attenuation; near-viscous. Yep, Bert, you’re pretty damn close.

Bouteille 33cl, BB03/2020. Couleur ambre voire acajou, col fin blanc-cassé.

From Belgiuminabox.com Pours unclear and dark chocolaty brown. Good to small white head. Smell is sweet, hints of coffee, bitter, chocolate malts in hidden hints. taste is bitter up front ( surprisingly bitter ) with a sweet, malty ( caramelmalty, sweet ) backbone. High on carbonation. Too high for my taste, but than again, i am a fan of undercarbonated beers. Not as complex as I expected, and I don’t get the oak at all. Weird. Its not a bad beer, but this is more what I expect if you call it a bitter double, with high alcohol...

33cl Bottle from Prik&Tik Baelus. Clear amber-brown colour, thin light-beige head. Aroma of brown sugar, alcohol, brandy/cognac, malts. Flavour is sweet, malty, brown sugar, brandy, wood, light fruity, some raisins, light bitter finish with some alcohol. Medium bodied at best. Don’t get much of the oak. It’s nice, but lacks depth and body.

330 ml. bottle @ home. Purchased @ Willems & Zoon. Deep dark brown amber, small off-white / tanned head. Nose is overly umami bubblegum, BE malts & yeasty, umami heavily herbal syrupy dark fruits & huge caramelized cane sugar sweetness, strong cough syrupy,… sweet sticky spices, light booze,… Overly umami typical Belgian fare,… Taste is herbal umami caramelized dark fruits, big sweetness, syrupy spices, faint star anise, thick caramel bubblegum, plum, caramelized apples, cane sugar & everything mixed with an umami, cooked for too long note, sweet herbal syrup with a good amount of cough syrup,… Like a mix between your typical sweet Belgian with lots of spices & cough medicine,… Medicine & syrupy body, lighter than you would expect with fine carbonation. Nothing terrible but I did feel like I was taking my medicine,… Good for people who like their Belgians very traditionally & frown upon any change.

330ml bottle, thanks to JefVerstraete! Pours deep amber. Has an enticing swirling candy-shop sweetness, some tripel-esque yeasty flavours with a soft doughy cushion. Interesting and not at all bad.
