Reviewed from notes.
Bottle to becher glass.
Appearance: dark brown close to black in the glass capped by a two and a half fingers of khaki foamy head which dissolved nicely to leave a good amount of clingy lace
Aroma: dark chocolate, black coffee, dark bread, subtle sweet ash, light smoke and then the dark fruity sweet tones of the plums but I say that thinking there's some other dark fruits in there too, just seems quite muddled
Flavor: sweet and roasty through the prior noted aromas with a kind toast/bready edge sliding in underneath; finishes dark fruity and milk chocolatey
Texture: light to medium bodied; sessionable; pretty smooth along the tongue as nothing is there to show any distracting flow to the beer
Overall: seems to lean towards an English porter slightly with a modern twist which I believe I liked and would welcome this beer again.

Draft at Smoke & Barrel. Opaque brown color beige head. Cinnamon chocolate aroma. Taste is plums and prunes dipped in coffee. Interesting but pricey.

Bottle. Pours a pitch black color with a small to medium creamy beige head. A big sugary fruity nose, molasses. Ashy, molasses, very rich tart plum, some cherries, a bit of leather. Dark malts, earthy ashy base. Quite nice. This might work better at 10%, but it works well at 6.5%. Loads of flavors. Quite good.

500 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big plum, raisin, red apple, chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of coffee, nuttiness, herbal, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, plums, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big plum, raisin, red apple, chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of coffee, nuttiness, herbal, pepper, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/spicy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Very slight fruit tartness. Lingering notes of plum, raisin, chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, light nuttiness/coffee, herbal, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, plums, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Slight dryness from hop/roast bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6.5%. Overall this is a fantastic English porter! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, plums, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter finish. Really rich malt complexity for the ABV; with complementing plum fruit and subtle yeast character that never overwhelms the malt profile. A highly enjoyable offering.

This one’s a little odd, and the fruit in here doesn’t really integrate super well like race relations in the U.S. Pours hazy grey-black without much head. Some roast, and fruit. Some sweetness and unfermented sugar. Tap at Max’s.
