Tigre Azul is a special edition of our beloved Mexican lager, brewed with Colorado grown blue corn! This series has been close to our hearts from the outset, designed in collaboration with our production team, we created the original Tigre Especial to test some ideas that we were curious about. The inaugural release was such a success that we’ve been able to create several iterations, each challenging us to work with new ingredients and processes.

For Tigre Azul, we worked with Whisky Sisters to source Colorado grown, blue corn. We sourced a special mill to process the whole corn by hand into a masa like powder and implemented a proper cereal mash to fully integrate this ingredient into the final beer. It’s pretty wild to see this one in action, the mash turns fully purple and the whole brewery smells like a fresh tortilla. It’s always such a vibe on brew day and everyone is just a little more excited and silly when Azul is in the tanks.

The beer has a striking color, reminiscent of rose gold, which nods to the special ingredient featured in this version, but the flavor remains centered around notes of almond and honey from the malt as well as a substantial “corn flake” like sweetness from the corn.

Can from Tavour. Pours clear bright gold with a slight transient white head. Aroma suggests maize/masa with some floral hop. Maybe med body. Malty/corny but fairly dry. Moderately bitter. Rather crisp.
