Happy Pride, friends. For this year’s edition of Rozedag, we went back to the basics – a hoppy pale ale. It’s brewed with Rakau, Vic Secret, Nelson Sauvin and Cascade, balancing tropical fruit notes with a pleasant bit of resin. A tribute to the flavours of modern pale ales woven into the beer scene as intrinsically as our LGBTQ+ friends and neighbours are woven into our community’s vibrant histories.

On tap at Barley Merchant, pours a clear copper golden with a small white head. Aroma is fairly muted, with crisp biscuity malt and a tiny touch of tangy hops. Flavour is crisp, with light citrusy hops, gentle floral notes, and crisp biscuity malt. I don’t detect the Nelson… just seems like a generic, bittering hop expression (from the Cascade). Structurally fine beer but not very interesting. Okay.

On tap at the brewery. Pours clear blonde with a white head. Nose is dank and tangy. Flavour has some tangy NZ hops, resins, and some dankness. A bit dirty, but enjoying the hop expression the more I drink. I'm a fan.
