Bottle in CO. Pours mostly clear reddish brown with a foamy, light tan head. Really nice stuff overall, lots of ripening berries, some creamy toffee, bready malts, a little toast. Medium bodied with massaging carbonation. Sweet finish, slightly sticky, with more berries, bready malts, soft toffee. Really fun stuff.

Sample during the "Collaboration Beers On Deck 2!" event on 08/13/2017. Cloudy brown color with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Partial rings of lace. Aroma of fruity yeast, malt and spice. Light-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, wheat, clove and fruit. The finish is fruity with a malty aftertaste. Above average overall.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a hazy glow and a nice, three centimetre tall off-white and tan head. Aroma of crisp bread, a lot of yeast, some bananas, cloves, earth, wheat and grass with a moderate amount of sugars around, mostly from caramelised elements, but some fruits and caster sugar there too. Medium-bodied; Assertive yeastie and earthy flavours with a big dose of grain and bread, some light caramelised sugars, but much more of an earthy and pungent flavour that has some bitterness from the alcohol, earth and especially the yeast coming through near the end. Aftertaste is much more deep, breadie and yeastie than I expected, even for a 'real' German beer. Overall, a good/decent beer for sure, but i'm not quite sure what everyone is so worked up about and why this is in the top 1% of the style! Good to sample, but i'd take most other dunkles in Bavaria over this one...I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Fair Lakes (Fairfax), Virginia on 12-August-2017 for US$25,99/twelve pack, sampled at home in Washington on 15-September-2017.

Bottle from the box set. Malty chocolate/cocoa nose, clove and banana, caramel. Cloudy orange-brown with a fine head. Estery, chocolate, cloves. Bready, yeasty. Some cherry or grape which I don't want. Ok. Expected more.

Bottle shared by Jack, thanks! Pours a hazy amber brown with a near white head that dissipates nearly completely. Aroma has a good amount of bread with some sweet grains and a bit of straw. Flavor has a good amount of bread with a light sweetness and straw.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Aroma is very malt forward with nice toasted bread, nutty malt notes with some lighter dark caramel and toffee notes. Medium high esters with banana being most prevalent and some lighter clove phenolic notes. Pours a dark brown color with some burnt amber hues on the edges and a medium sized, fairly thick, tan head that slowly recedes to a thin film that lingers. Flavor has a light sweetness to it, but a fairly strong malt profile. Lots of toasted bread, nuts, dark caramel and toffee. Moderately strong esters of banana with some lighter clove phenolic notes. Hints of raisin and plum as well. Light alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer, for the style, but I really don't like those banana esters in darker beers (I also strongly dislike banana bread).

On tap at Vultures Lane. Pours hazy brown. Banana, cloves, coriander, chocolate, lots of bread. Fine.

12 ounce bottle. Cloudy, medium brown color. Fluffy beige head. Sweet toasted wheat malt nose. Notes for banana and cloves. Flavor follows nose. Notes of caramel, vanilla and cocoa. Quite good.

Bottle. Murky brown beer with a tan head. Light citrus and light caramel aroma. Wheat and caramel flavor with light banana. Medium bodied. Wheat and caramel lingers with light banana.

Bottle: Cloudy, dark brown wit an off-white head. Caramel, banana , clove scent.. Flavour is medium-sweet, old banana, caramel malt, a bit of chocolate. Very tasty....and pretty solid....would have like it to be a little more chewy, but that’s just a minor gripe on my part. Good stuff.
