Kipling was the first UK beer to use the exquisite Nelson Sauvin hop from New Zealand. We brew this as a SMASH (Single Malt and Single Hop) using the heritage Maris Otter as a base malt which works to allow the complex flavour of this hop to really shine through. There is a grassy, grapefruit character on the nose, followed by passionfruit and mango. It finishes with a balanced and thirst-quenching bitterness.

500ml bottle: slightly out of date when poured into an ’Old Speckled Hen’ badged pint vase on 9th Dec 2012. Pale yellow body with a slight haze to it: on top a rippling uneven head of white bubbles. Tropical fruit aroma: the taste is simular but more citrusy with the dry citrusy bitterness getting stronger as the mouth loses the last drop of beer in each sip/gulp. This is a summers day brew, not a cold December evening one. Refreshing but not at all warming or cosy. Well crafted but not a beer I’ll be trying to find again: my taste buds prefer sweeter, maltier flavours.

Slightly hazy golden colour, white head. Aroma of hops, resin, sweat, light fruity notes, apricot and lychee. Light sweet malty flavour packed with a lot of bitterness. Finish bitter hops, fruity touch.
Great little beer!

pours very very clear , light. white fast fading foam. hops and malts on the nose , intense taste. realy surprising too! very much ’exoticer’ fruits, like kiwi ( damn thats more kiwi than the kiwi pils of evil twin ! ) fading with again the kiwi, some small bitterness, lightly going away. kinda waawed by this !

500ml bottle Waitrose, Beckenham - Gold colour, pours a nice head, with light lacing. Pleasing assault of tropical fruit on tasting (grapefruit/kiwi most prominent) with a nice bitter aftertaste. Edit# Rated again on bottle on recent trip back to UK, not as amazing as I remember in my early rating days in 2012, but still very nice. Score revised.

500 ml bottle purchased at Zipps in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The pour is a hazy yellow golden with a one inch white head that breaks apart quick and falls with a touch of lacing. The aroma initially has a touch of skunk, then opens up to tropical fruits, white grape and a dry earthy woodiness that pulls it together. The taste is dry tropical fruit and earthiness of the Nelson Sauvin, opening up to a dry toasted cracker malt base. The hops and malt are clean, and nicely dry. The palate is light bodied, active soft natural carbonation and a nicely unfiltered mouth feel. Easy drinking and tasty beer.

Light coloured pale ale with a superb nose of tropical fruits, there’s plenty of taste in it too.

Draft at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Well, this beer looks rather innocent but after one sip it's clearly guilty as charged! Its a very light amber pour which really does not inspire. There is little in the way of a memorable aroma either, but this beer is packed full of flavour. I'll be the first to admit though that this really isn't a session beer and the flavour might not be to everyone's taste. The citrus tones are very strong. All I can think of when I taste this is grapefruit which gives this beer it's sour and bitter taste that really hits your sinuses! The palate was not as strong as I expected and the aftertaste faded rather quickly. A great beer to taste and I would order again, but not by the pint and not all night long. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A heavy grapefruit bite and aroma, some kumquat and tropical citrus. Looks a good golden colour, lacy head.
