East India Pale: Brett IPA from Soul Barrel Brewery is a tribute to the historical roots of India Pale Ales, meticulously crafted to mirror the 18th-century brewing tradition. This Imperial IPA is aged in French oak barrels for three years, during which it undergoes a secondary fermentation with the wild yeast Brettanomyces, or Brett.

This aging process imparts a dry, effervescent character that beautifully complements the fruity hop flavours of pineapple and citrus. The beer is then revitalized with a fresh, hoppy batch, resulting in a brew where bright citrus hops shine through, balanced by a crisp, minty oak finish. This Brett IPA is not just a craft beer; it’s a taste of history, offering a complex and rewarding drinking experience that reflects the rich heritage of IPAs that once voyaged from England, around the Cape, to India. Experience the unique blend of tradition and innovation that defines craft beer in South Africa with East India Pale: Brett IPA from Soul Barrel Brewery.

Taster on tap at Uba ja Humal, Tallinn. Pours golden with a modest, but lasting, white head. Funky and fresh with fruity and hippy notes brett and mild malty notes. Delicious mixture of funky and hoppy. Tart, sourish and moderate bitter.

375mL bottle from the brewery. Pours hazy blonde with a large foamy white head. Tons of Brett, citrus, and floral hops on the nose. Flavour has dry Brett, floral hops, citrus peel, and crisp cracker malts. High carbonation. Very nice, the Brett works excellently and the beer is crisp and refreshing.

Putoooja25. Yellowish golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is citrus, some bretty funk with mild grapes and some earthy tones too. Flavour is quite similar to the elements of the aroma. Pleasant.
