X-Wings (named for the X-wing Starfighter and Paul McCartney’s post Beatles rock band) is a 16% ABV non-adjuncted Imperial Stout aged in a Four Roses bourbon barrel for 30 months.

This complex beer showcases the barrel in the absolute coolest way. It gives off caramel, wildflower honey, and tons of tannins from the oak. It has a light warmth and the bourbon blends well with the chocolatey stout malt. We get flavors of crème brûlée and deep vanilla. It’s wiiiild what has happened over this 30 month period.

Sample, thanks fonefan! Viscous black, no head. Aroma of vanilla, caramel and cocoa. Very sweet with full to massive body and rounded, viscous mouthfeel. Maple ayrup, caramel and osky vanilla. Sticky, warming finish. Sure, way oversweet and cloying, but not cakey and have some complexity.

Thanks fonefan! Pitch black colour, minor head. Aroma is liquorice, dried fruits, some vanilla, wood, alcohol and a bit resin and chocolate too. Flavour is chocolaty, some dried fruits, alcohol, syrup, mild liquorice with some mild bourbon sweetness as well as some raisins. Biggie.
